3. Whitman: The Child -Born on May 31, 1819 to farmers in West Hills, Long Island. -Ancestors from England and Holland -7 brothers and sisters -Lived with both experiences of country life and urban life in Brooklyn. -Went to school until he was 11.

4. -Worked as an office clerk and printer’s assistant, and eventually taught school -He never went to college -Worked as a journalist during his 20’s. -Traveled to New Orleans on an assignment and gathered much knowledge about the diverse American life.
