About Habitat Pinellas Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit housing organization based on Christian principles. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with struggling low-income families and individuals to engage community volunteers, and corporate, civic and faith organizations to help us build and renovate decent, affordable housing.

The Need Decent, Affordable Housing is a Matter of Conscience and Action Overcrowded. Substandard. Financially burdened... These problems create instability in our community, weaken our economy, and even impact health and educational success. These problems are an everyday reality for many Pinellas County children and families. For instance, more than 38 percent of our population spend too much of their income on housing. Supporters, like you, join Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County to improve the housing issues in our community by donating time or money. Affordable housing is a complex issue, but Habitat Pinellas has solutions that help parents provide affordable housing for their families. With your help, we are increasing our capacity to build and address these concerns. For families who are stuck in the downward spiral of poverty housing, Habitat’s homeownership program provides a solution for brighter futures.

(NLIHC: 2006) Almost 16 million Americans pay 50 percent or more of their income for housing. One in three American households spend more than 30 percent of income on housing, and one in seven spends more than 50 percent. (JCHS: 2006) About 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems including a high-cost burden, overcrowding, poor quality shelter and homelessness. Habitat’s unique and sensible formula makes it possible for limited-income households to own a home they can afford. With volunteer labor and local donations of money and some in- kind materials, Habitat Pinellas builds and rehabilitates houses with the help of the homeowner families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families or individuals at no profit and financed with zero-interest loans. Watch our brief video (left)! How Habitat Works Habitat gives away free homes to the poor. Myth Habitat sells homes at 0% interest to those who qualify. Fact

What Makes Habitat Unique? Building Locally We raise our funds locally to create affordable housing Building Globally For every home built in Pinellas, a home is built overseas Building Green, Building to Last We utilize durable building materials with a long lifespan and low maintenance costs We design homes that are resistant to high winds and as a result homebuyers have relatively low annual insurance costs Our homes are built with additional insulation, high-efficiency windows and energy-efficient appliances utilizing significantly less energy than comparable new homes in the marketplace Building Brings People Together We build with all people regardless of race or religious beliefs because our differences strengthen our community Building with Dignity Homeowner candidates build their own futures by building a home of their own They invest hundreds of hours of labor “sweat equity” into building homes for others They attend homeowner classes (like financial planning and home maintenance) that help them to be independent and successful Building with YOU We build because of people like YOU! What would you like to do to help make it possible for Habitat Pinellas to help more families?
