The Great Gatsby takes place during the Roaring 20’s, which is also known as the Jazz age. The time was after the disillusionment of WW I. Young people questioned the values of previous generations. Many lived for confused materialistic goals, until the stock market failed in 1929. It was a time of bootlegging, prohibition, and the Charleston! 1.
