What is textual evidence? Textual evidence is information from a text that supports an idea or belief.  Texts include such things as newspapers, magazines, books, letters, emails, and other written documents.

Using evidence to support a statement You could say, “On the first page of the novel, Nick’s father reminds him that he’s had more advantages than other people in the world.” Suppose your teacher asks, “What textual evidence shows that Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby, was born into a wealthy family? Textual Evidence 

What are evidence-based terms? Evidence-based terms are the words or phrases that connect an idea and the textual evidence that supports the idea.

Evidence-based terms Daisy Buchanan was in love with wealth. For example, the novel says, “Her voice is full of money.” The novel provides a glimpse of American life because it focuses on the lavish lifestyles of the 1920s.

More evidence-based terms The ability to deliver speeches is a learned skill. The author stated, “We are not born with the expertise to do this.” Interviewing for a job isn’t like having a conversation at school. It is a structured experience. According to the text, every element is planned beforehand.

More evidence-based terms You need to understand several concepts about culture. For instance, culture is something that is learned. Based on the reading, I know that an open-ended question is one that requires more than a “yes” or “no” answer.
