4 Interns for Indiana To place high quality student interns with start- up companies, thus accelerating company growth, while providing students with valuable educational experiences

6 2004-2005 Program Overview 30 interns Year-long program for companies and students Academic year and summer internships Supporting education program for students Student interns receive a stipend from Purdue

7 The IfI Program can… Provide additional staff to perform tasks and complete projects requiring deep involvement; Help you identify good quality candidates for full-time employment; Contribute staff with up-to-date knowledge, tremendous enthusiasm and fresh perspectives; Create good will ambassadors for your company after the internship is completed.

8 Are you ready for an intern? What do you hope to gain from an intern? What will the intern do? What are the goals and objectives of the internship? Who will supervise or mentor the intern? How will the intern’s progress be measured?

9 Application Process 1.Complete IfI application form. 2.Maximize your options by submitting position requests for several possible positions. 3.Mail SIGNED application and position requests to be received by August 27, 2004 Applicants will be reviewed by a committee with selected companies notified on September 13 th, 2004.

11 Matching Process September 13 - Companies receive acceptance notification. September 13 – Available internships posted for student review. September 16 – Students notify IfI of internship interests. September 17 – Companies receive resumes of students interested in their positions. September 17-24 – Companies interview and select intern(s). September 24 – Provide names of selected intern(s) to IfI. September 27 – First possible student work day.* *returning students may start at other times.

12 BE SPECIFIC AND MARKET TO THE STUDENTS

13 Student Selection Companies interview and select their intern(s) from the pool provided. Companies notify IfI staff with the name of the selected intern(s). Students work no less than 100 hours and no more than 150 hours between September 27 and January 9, 2005. Students receive a $1500 stipend from Purdue.

14 Company Responsibilities High quality, meaningful work experience Supervision Effective training, guidance, and evaluation Communication with IfI staff Assessment Equal Opportunity Employment compliance

15 IfI’s Responsibilities Help design appropriate work assignments. Identify appropriate intern candidates. Provide educational training and support for interns. Award appropriate credit and compensation. Monitor and assess program Facilitate communication. Maintain a fair and ethical program.

16 Intern Responsibilities Maintain high job performance. Act in an ethical and professional manner. Follow assigned work schedule. Participate in company and program assessment. Attend educational programming.
