2 Short Adjectives Two types:
· One syllable (most adjectives) but not past participles like bored or scared · Two-syllable adjectives which end in –y/-le/-er/-ow like ugly or clever We add -er to short adjectives to make comparatives and -est to make the superlative form; like longer or longest If the adjective ends in –e we add -r or -st like wide/wider/widest If it ends in a single vowel and consonant, we double the consonant and add -er or -est like big/bigger/biggest Some adjectives are irregular like: Good/better/best Far/further/furthest Bad/worse/worst

3 Long Adjectives We use more and most for the majority of long adjectives which have more than one syllable. Examples: Exciting/more exciting/most exciting Attractive/more attractive/most attractive Intelligent/more intelligent/most intelligent

4 Adverbs We add more and most to form comparatives and superlatives
When two-syllable adjectives ends in -ly we add -er and –est -We use more and most for two-syllable adverbs like more slowly/most slowly Some irregular verbs have the same forms ending as short adjectives -er /-est to form superlatives and comparatives. Examples: Fast/faster/fastest Well/better/best Badly/worse/worst
