Defining a Research Chair A Chair will → conduct and supervise research → mentor young academics → foster cross–disciplinary relationships → facilitate research and training. A Chair includes → A team of 10 – 15 people → lead by a senior researcher (Professor) → supported by 2 – 3 Post Doctoral Students (PhD) → train 10 – 12 post-graduate students → who all do research on a sub-topic of the ‘Chair’ i.e. ‘Chair for African Financial Markets’ 17 September 2012Copyright Advancement Academy3

Research Chair Needs Clear Vision Increased African economic growth through an improved mathematical and analytical understanding of African financial markets. Part of a dynamic academic environment → SU’s Department of Mathematical Sciences → offer Honours program in Math. Finance → Department has strong links with AIMS → for which it hosts masters + doctoral students → from all over Africa A long term commitment → Have a 5 – 10 years plan → Available funding of EUR 440’000 p.a. → Possibility to work trans-disciplinary 17 September 2012Copyright Advancement Academy4
