Galatians 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The blessing of Abraham comes through the Seed, Christ, to everyone else. The baptism of the Spirit gives us the ability to live for Him. We are in Christ and He is in us. VS.

3:15-18 - God's blessing through the Seed is unchangeable VS.

Galatians 3:15 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

How much more will God's covenant be kept? VS.

Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.

The blessing of the AC comes through Christ and all who are "sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (called a "generic singular" Gal. 3:26 VS.

Christ gave the blessings of the New Covenant to all who believe in Him Lk. 22:20; 1 Cor. 11:25; 2 Cor. 3:6 Christ also gives us the "promise of the Father", the Holy Spirit Acts 1:4-5; 2:16; Joel 2:28-29 VS.

Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.

The Law did not set aside the promise to Abraham that the blessing would come through His seed. VS.

Galatians 3:18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Passive inheritance = for all believers. (Get into the Kingdom, Justification, Sonship, Eternal life, etc.) ____________________ Active inheritance = for faithful believers. (Ruling with Christ and the privileges that go with it) vs. VS.

Romans 8:16-17 Talks about both inheritances. Galatians 3:18 is talking about Passive Inheritance for all believers. VS.

Galatians 3:19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

3:19-25 - The Purpose of the Law: To get Israel ready for justification by faith VS.

Israel was living in a manner that displeased God The Law expressed His will The Law showed their sin The Law kept them separate VS.

Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.

Moses mediated between God and man in the Mosaic Law It was an covenant the people agreed to keep. Ex. 19:8; 24:3 VS.

Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

The giving of the Law does not mean it is at odds with the promises. No moral law, no matter how good, can give life. Law only exposes the weakness of the flesh. Rom. 8:3-4; note Rom. 7:15-20 VS.

Galatians 3:22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Looks a lot like Romans 3:19-23 Notice that, once again, Paul is clear the we are justified (declared righteous) and given the Spirit when we have faith/ believe in Jesus Christ. VS.

Galatians 3:22 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.

"we" = the Jewish nation The Law kept Israel distinct as a nation. They were also continually aware of their need for the Messiah. VS.

Galatians 3:24-25 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

The Law should have turned the people's attention to the need for faith; it should not have been their focus. ________________________ The impossibility of pleasing God should have been obvious. VS.

When we believe in Christ, we die to the Law. Romans 6:4; 7:6 VS.

Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

3:26-4:31 Believers are now liberated to serve God 3:26-29 Believers are adult sons and heirs according to promise VS.

Everyone is blessed through the Abrahamic promises through Christ when they believe in Him. The "seed" is Christ and those who take part through Him. VS.

We not only become (adult) sons of God, the Spirit also baptizes us into the Body of Christ and indwells us when we believe. Rom. 6:4; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 1:13-14 VS.

When we believe we are baptized by the Spirit, clothed with Christ, and His righteousness. We have the power to do what could not be done under the Law Rom. 8:3-4 VS.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Though we are distinct, we have equal standing before God regardless of race, social status, or gender. We are one in Christ and all have the ability to live for Him. VS.

Galatians 3:29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Notice that this confirms that the "seed" is a reference to Christ and those who believe in Him. This is true because you are Christ's. VS.

Heirship (passive) is the privilege of all believers. Paul's has been speaking of this heirship and now will discuss it further (4:1-7) VS.

Galatians 3:14 The blessing of Abraham comes to believing Jews and Gentiles alike. Paul includes himself, and Jews, along with Gentiles. VS.

Summary All believers... are heirs of Abraham's are sons of God are equal in Christ have been baptized into Christ VS.

Summary All believers... have been given the Spirit and His power have died to, and are free from, the Law have been declared righteous by grace through faith and can grow by grace through faith VS.
