4 Wellness Goal # 1 –Create an active, sustainable school wellness team to lead wellness efforts in our school. Made a plan Made a wiki space for communication Developed a Parent newsletter Set monthly meetings Decided students needed to be added to the team

5 Wellness Goal # 2 Increase Physical Activity/PE for students –2008-09 6 th graders received 100 minutes per week of PE. 2009-10 6 th grader now receive 220 minutes per week of PE. –Developed an Intramurals program for 6 th graders –Started Enrichment clubs – (Adventure Education) –Initiated “Mustangs in Motion” 10 minute exercise breaks –Initiated CSAP “Go” Breaks (student lead) –Maintained 220 minutes per week for 7 th & 8 th grade PE classes

6 Wellness Goal # 3 Promote healthy eating practices/opportunities for students –Suggested to have a healthy reminder in the student planner for 2009-10 –Proposal to students and parents for healthy snacks throughout the year –Suggested to the Student Council to sell healthier snacks in their concession stand. –Snack machines have healthy snacks and there are no soda machines for students. –Developed a CSAP snack memo to parents

7 Wellness Goal # 4 Promote Staff Wellness –Developed and organized the 50 miles in 50 days competition –Suggested to office manager to serve Healthy snacks for staff meetings –Suggested we have activities after school for staff (yoga) –Developed a Staff survey on needs and wants for their wellness

8 Wellness Goal # 5 Increase Community/Parent Outreach Education –Developed our Wellness Wiki Space (mustangsinmotion.wikispaces.com) –Produced a wellness memo to go out to parents and staff –Increased communication around expectations, policies, absences for middle school parents to lower stress & anxiety –Increased our community events. –Suggested a research section in the library for students, parents and staff

15 Fitness Essay to answer the needs and wants of the students Collaborating with the English department on our school writing goals, we assigned an essay for our PE students to see what they wanted to improve on their fitness levels. The students will be graded on Ideas, Content, Organization and Sentence Fluency. So far, the rough drafts are amazing. Students are truly interested in their wellness!
