The fertility rate is 1.9 The United States is a Stage 4 country, and it’s aging population is likely to place massive amounts of pressure on the public health system as will lead to a need to treat chronic illnesses more often and acute illnesses less. The US has an infant mortality rate of 6.8, which is unusually high for such a developed country and has led to action being taken within the health care system.  The life expectancy at birth is currently 78, and this will lead to a higher amount of pressure on the public welfare system in cases where proper retirement planning has not been undertaken.
