Facts on Women and Heart Disease Although heart disease is sometimes thought of as a "man's disease," around the same number of women and men die each year of heart disease in the United States. Despite increases in awareness over the past decade, only 54% of women recognize that heart disease is their number 1 killer. Almost two-thirds (64%) of women who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms. Even if you have no symptoms, you may still be at risk for heart disease. 15 Who Is Eligible for Cardiac Rehab?  Medicare covers cardiac rehab for those who have had any of the following: – Heart attack - Stent – Bypass surgery- Heart or Valve Surgery – Angina- Heart transplant  Private insurances vary and will be reviewed and cleared by staff prior to starting the program July 200815

16 What is the cost of cardiac rehab ?  Most charges for outpatient cardiac rehab are covered by insurance  Staff will assist in evaluating coverage and calculating out of pocket costs (if any) prior to starting  “Maintenance” programs are designed to help patients continue their commitment to exercise.
