He was voted into a starting spot in the All-Star Game ten times. “Ryno” also earned nine Gold Glove awards, which are given to the best fielder at each position in the league. Sandberg was selected as the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 1984, and he was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in Recognition of the second baseman’s ability also came from his peers; former Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog called Sandberg “the best baseball player I’ve ever seen.” Ryne Sandberg’s accomplishments on the field are certain to secure his place in baseball history.
