Transportation 1310 Example: Indigo is responsible for scheduling our Transportation training. Pedestrian training takes place 30 days after the beginning of each school year. Field trips are scheduled each quarter Evacuation drills occur during each field trip A binder is kept to document evacuation drills

Transportation 1310 Head Start programs are not required to provide transportation services, however, there are a few key transportation regulations that grantee and delegate agencies are required to comply with.

Transportation 1310 According to CFR 45 1310, Head Start programs are required to: Assist parents to arrange transportation Provide pedestrian and riding safety education within 30 days (including EHS and Home base programs). Release children only to individuals who have been authorized in writing Recruitment materials informing parents that transportation services are not available.

Transportation 1310 The training requirements for parents and children are to be conducted within the first 30 days of enrollment to include: Vehicle evacuation drills/year Danger zones around vehicle Pedestrian safety training Classroom activities Safe riding, boarding, and crossing.

Transportation 1310 Field Trips: Transportation Services (45 CFR 1310.3) are defined in the regulation as "the planned transporting of children to and from sites where an agency provides services funded under the Head Start Act”.

Transportation 1310 Field Trips: Transportation services can involve the pick- up and discharge of children at regularly scheduled times and pre-arranged sites, including trips between children's homes and program settings." Field trips are pre-planned and pre-arranged, and children are receiving direct component services.

Transportation 1310 Bus Evacuation Drills 1312.21 a(5)(2) states that two drills are conducted per year in addition to one drill conducted on the vehicle the child will be riding To include one front (side) and one back. Prearrange your drill with transportation company Cost efficient when you conduct two drills at the end of your trip
