THE CALL TO WORSHIP [ Pastor / CONGREGATION] [ Adapted from Proverbs 2:1 ‑ 5; Isaiah 33:6; Matthew 6:20 ‑ 21 ] If you accept my words, IF YOU STORE UP MY COMMANDS within your body, mind and soul, IF YOU TURN YOUR EAR TO WISDOM, and apply your heart to understanding, IF YOU CALL OUT FOR INSIGHT, and cry aloud for discernment, IF YOU LOOK FOR COMMON SENSE

If you look as you would for lost silver, IF YOU SEARCH FOR REASON as you would hidden treasure, THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND reverence for the Lord. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE TRUE LEARNING. And God will be the sure foundation FOR YOUR TIMES.

God will be for you a rich store of salvation PLUS WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE; Reverence for the Lord IS THE KEY TO THIS TREASURE. For where your treasure is, THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO. [ Adapted from Proverbs 2:1 ‑ 5; Isaiah 33:6; Matthew 6:20 ‑ 21 ]

THE OPENING HYMN #43 ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME [ All who are able please stand ]

(1) All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown Him Lord of all. Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown Him Lord of all.

(2) You chosen seed of Israel's race, You ransomed from the fall, Hail Him who saves you by His grace, And crown Him Lord of all. Hail Him who saves you by His grace, And crown Him Lord of all.

(3) Let every kindred, every tribe On this terrestrial ball, To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him Lord of all. To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him Lord of all.

(4) O that with yonder sacred throng We at His feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song, And crown Him Lord of all. We'll join the everlasting song, And crown Him Lord of all.

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Hebrews 12:1-2a Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside everything that weighs us down, especially those sins that steal away our faith. Let us not give up on the path that is before us, looking unto Jesus, the One who pioneered and perfected our faith.

**THE SONG OF RESPONSE: #488 JUST AS I AM Just as I am, without one plea, But that Your blood was shed for me, And that You bid me come to You, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot, To You whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, You will receive, Will welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Your promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE Colossians 1:21-29 Read by Elder Roy Palk, J.D. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation—if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.

This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of His body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.

To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY. He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

THE SONG OF PREPARATION: #349 O HOW HE LOVES YOU AND ME O how He loves you and me! He gave His life; What more could He give? O how He loves you! O how He loves me! O how He loves you and me!

Jesus to Calvary did go; His love for sinners to show. What He did there brought hope from despair. O how He loves you! O how He loves me! O how He loves you and me!

TWO MORE ‘CHRIST-IN-YOU’ VIRTUES: #1- Restraint #2-Fidelity Colossians 1:15-27 (Sermon 2 of 3 on Christ-centered virtues) #1- 07/12/15: Generosity, Tolerance, Forgiveness #2- 07/19/15: Restraint, Fidelity #3- 07/26/15: Courage Bayshore Gardens Community Church Dr. Daniel Herlein

VIRTUES ARE INTERNALIZED ATTITUDES OF MORAL EXCELLENCE, NURTURED INTO PRACTICE. Paul uses the powerful triad of FAITH, LOVE AND HOPE as the unshakable bedrock of Christ-centeredness upon which internalized virtues can grow and prosper. (Colossians 1:4)

#4 COLOSSIANS 1:28 – LGT Proclaim Christ, COUNSELLING and PATIENTLY TEACHING circumspectly, always using RESTRAINT, CARE and a WISE approach with everyone you meet.

Without the exercise of restraint and caution, we can end up with our integrity buried in the mud of dishonesty and deception

#5 Colossians 1:23 Continue in your faith, [keep focused, stay on track] established and firm, not drawn away from the hope offered in the Good News.

Christian fidelity is about being true to be and to become the kind of person God had in mind when He created you so that you can offer yourself back to God and to others as a “Christ-In-You” living example of faithfulness.

(1) I stand amazed in the presence Of Jesus the Nazarene, And wonder how He could love me, A sinner, condemned, unclean. How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

(2) For me it was in the garden He prayed: “Not My will, but Thine.” He had no tears for His own griefs, But sweat drops of blood for mine. How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

(3) He took my sins and my sorrows, He made them His very own; He bore the burden to Calv’ry, And suffered and died alone. How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

(4) When with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see, ’Twill be my joy through the ages To sing of His love for me. How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!
