4 Web Site Update Web Site Address: www.iacforum.orgwww.iacforum.org New Look, New Features –New webmaster, transitional bugs to resolve Home page is experiencing over 1,000 hits per month Traffic will dramatically increase this spring when DOE links to it (DOE’s web traffic is in the millions!)

5 Web Site Update (cont’d) Careers- Very Popular with Visitors! –Resumes: password protected, edit and delete functions available –Job Opportunities: will be updated more frequently –Encourage your colleagues to post, or re-post their resumes ASAP! Our career section has great exposure and is used by many companies. They don’t always list positions, most simply look at the resumes!

6 Web Site Update (cont’d) Message Boards are back on-line! AR Exchange –With Director approval, students may post unique ARs on the web site –Strict limitations on postings, site will be closely monitored –May add password protection in the future Newsletter – will produce 2 per year Requesting students submit materials for the web site and newsletter – U Dayton Top 10, pictures, success stories, software, etc. Send info to Michaela.

8 Student Registry All IAC students must participate in the Registry –Link from: www.iacforum.org/registry.htm –Upon employment, or ASAP –Information may be updated at any time –Info provided by student: Name, address, field of study, school, active/inactive, lead status –Lead student status should be updated frequently – You should have only 1 or 2 students identified as a lead –Update student status via Lead Student Query –Rutgers uses this site in their evaluation of center performance, student participation is important!

14 Student Exit Interviews All IAC students must take the Exit Interview before departing the IAC –Also located at www.iacforum.org/registry.htm –Info provided by student: Name, permanent address, feedback on experience, short-term career goals –Completion of Exit Interview automatically updates student’s status to inactive –Critical information for evaluation of center and DOE program performance, used for the determination of future IAC budgets

15 Student Participant Reports Accessible only by IAC Management Identifies numbers of registered students, exit interviews and student certificates issued Used by Rutgers for center performance evaluation Used by DOE to report level of student participation to congress for budget requests

16 Student Brochure Schools should have copies on-hand File (pdf) is on student web site under the Marketing link at http://www.iacforum.org/marketing2.htm Please distribute to clients, recruiters, potential employers, state boards, etc.

17 IAC Certificates of Participation New Look for 2004 Signed by the Assistant Secretary of Energy Requires applicants to meet minimum criteria –2 academic sessions, 6 plant visits, 7 of 9 core skills Paperwork due by March 1, July 1 and October 1 –Return to Michaela Martin, via email, snail mail or fax DOE Certificates are returned to Directors for Distribution to Students within 30-45 days Common Problems and Delays –Incomplete forms: return address and student permanent address are often missing –Students must be registered in the IAC registry to receive certificates –Directors forget to distribute certificates to students

20 Student Steering Committee Committee of IAC Students Discusses issues raised by IAC student population, DOE, Directors Makes recommendations and reports to DOE

21 Student Steering Committee Committee structure –Lead Students from 7 centers are voting members –3 non-voting advisors: Larry Ambs, Michaela Martin, Alumnus (tbd) Committee Activities –Meet twice per year – student’s meeting and by phone –Gathers input from center colleagues and advisors –Makes formal recommendations to DOE, Directors and Students Committee Membership Details –2 year terms for centers –Each center should appoint a lead student and alternate to participate –Centers will “roll off” in phases, new centers will “roll on” in alphabetical order

23 Student Steering Committee Discussions Officers will attend the IAC Directors Meeting Results from discussions at the 2003 Directors meeting will be presented this afternoon Students will have the opportunity to discuss issues of interest with steering committee members this afternoon

24 Professional Conferences Opportunity to present papers and/or attend professional conferences that are relevant to your IAC experience Conference and travel costs were covered by ORNL In 2003, 22 students attended conferences including: –ASHRAE – American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air- Conditioning Engineers, January 25-28, 2003 –AEE – Association of Energy Engineers, November 12-14, 2003, Atlanta, GA –IETC – Industrial Energy Technology Conference, May 13-16, 2003, Houston, TX –ACEEE – American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, July 2003, Rye Brook, NY (with IAC Directors Meeting)

25 Professional Conferences Cuts in the 2004 Budget have severely limited this activity Funds are available to cover travel costs for only 3-4 students to attend conferences –Priority will be given to authors/presenters of technical papers –Additionally, awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis Contact Michaela for more info
