The Bible Made User-Friendly “APPLICATION MADE EASY?”

3 Observation + Interpretation – Application =

4 Observation + Interpretation – Application = Abortion
A sermon without an application is no sermon at all!

5 Observation + Interpretation – Application = Abortion
"…and may the Lord bless this sermon to the keeping of your hearts."`

"The Bible was not written to satisfy your curiosity; it was written to transform your life. The ultimate goal of Bible Study, then, is not to do something to the Bible, but to allow the Bible to do something to you, so truth becomes tangent to life. You see, we frequently come to the Bible to study it, to teach it, to preach it, to outline it—everything except to be changed by it." (Howard Hendricks in Living By the Book)

7 James 1:19-25 19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

8 Applying the cure is the only way the remedy works!
James 1:19-27

9 God Promises Us That We Can Understand The Bible!
John 7:17 "If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself." Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

10 How Can I Be Blessed by the Bible? James 1:19-27
I MUST RECEIVE GOD'S WORD (19-21).

11 Hearing-Aides for Good Reception of the Word: James 1:19-21
Be Careful. Be Calm. Be Clean. Be Humble. Be A Doer.

12 How Can I Be Blessed by the Bible? James 1:19-27
I MUST RECEIVE GOD'S WORD (19-21). I MUST REFLECT ON WHAT IT SAYS (22-25).

13 Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

14 What am I trying to find? Is there a Command to Obey?
Is there an Example to Follow? Is there an Implication to Infer? Is there an Attitude to Change? Is there a Prayer to Pray? Is there an Error to Avoid? Is there a Sin to Confess? Is there a Promise to Claim? Is there a Truth to Believe?

15 How Can I Be Blessed by the Bible? James 1:19-27
I MUST RECEIVE GOD'S WORD (19-21). I MUST REFLECT ON WHAT IT SAYS (22-25). I MUST RESPOND TO WHAT IT SAYS (22-27).

16 Matthew 7:24-27 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 "And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 "The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell — and great was its fall."

17 Matthew 7:24-27 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell — and great was its fall."

18 Three Ways to Test Your Response to the Word:
James 1:26-27 You Control Your Tongue. You Respond the Needs of Others. You Keep Yourself Pure.

19 How Can I Apply The Message? James 1:19-27
I MUST RECEIVE GOD'S WORD (19-21). I MUST REFLECT ON WHAT IT SAYS (22-25). I MUST RESPOND TO WHAT IT SAYS (22-27).

20 Seeing the Application Can Be Made User-Friendly…
Truly Living It Cannot Be Done Without God's Power!

21 Where can I find the power to do these things?
Ephesians 3:20-21 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

22 Where can I find the power to do these things?
Ephesians 3:20-21 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

23 Ephesians 1:15-23 15 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

24 Ephesians 1:15-23 These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

25 "Be filled with the Spirit"
Ephesians 5:15-21 15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

26 "Be filled with the Spirit"
Colossians 3:16-17 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

27 Look upon Christ without any hindrances.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

28 John 13:13-17 13 "You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them."

29 John 13:13-17 13 "You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.

30 2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

31 Where can I find the power to do these things?
Ephesians 3:20-21 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
