Background on Andrew Johnson Born on December 29 1808 Raleigh, North Carolina Andrews Mother and Father could barely read or write so Andrew could not read or write Born with two other brothers Jacob, and Mary Father died when Andrew was three The mother made Andrew a apprentice to a local tailor Johnson married a girl named Eliza McCradle in 1827 Eliza taught her husband how to read and Write There children's names were Martha, Charles, Mary, Robert, and Andrew
