Significance of US Aerospace Industry Opportunities in aviation and space industries Employment opportunities expected to increase as Apollo- era engineers reach retirement age Employs 500,000 workers, including managers, engineers, and highly skilled production workers $80 - 100 Billion in exports per year Above-average salaries at all levels Opportunities in both government and private sector – Private industry is taking over launch services and rocket development in the United States – NASA still designs, builds, and operates many spacecraft and landers – USAF has extensive space program From US Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics
7
Major Units Introduction to Aerospace – Evolution of Flight – Physics of Flight – Flight Planning and Navigation Aerospace Design – Materials and Structures – Propulsion – Flight Physiology Space – Space Travel – Orbital Mechanics Alternative Applications – Remote Systems – Aerospace Careers
