Locations which are particularly difficult environments. Where the development of tourism has only recently occurred due to a niche market demand for somewhere different with physical challenges. Give some examples of Extreme environments.

4 What you need to know: The attractions of extreme environments for tourism. The increased demand for adventure holidays. The impact of tourism on an extreme environment. A CASE STUDY of one extreme area and the extent to which it can cope with the development of a tourist industry.

5 Aim: To produce a case study on the extreme
Key question: What is an extreme environment or wilderness, why is tourism in these environments increasing and what are the impacts of this? Aim: To produce a case study on the extreme environment or wilderness of Zanskar in the Himalayas, to include: Location-specific information with annotated maps An overview of what an extreme environment is The attractions of this environment to people The possible impacts of tourism in the area
