5 STEM National Picture  28 th in the world for Math  27 th in the World for Science  The U.S. STEM Professional Community is world’s largest.  Research Progress on learning growing.  Political Progress: educational reform and funding.

6 STEM National Picture  By 2014, there are expected to be 2 million jobs created in STEM-related fields.  STEM jobs pay 26% more than other occupations  But: National Assessment of Educational Progress, less than one-third of U.S. eighth graders show proficiency in mathematics and science.  Largest gap between STEM groups African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and women.
