Grades & G.P.A. Semester Grades are Recorded on the Transcript (Your academic Record). A semester grade is comprised of two quarters and the semester exam. GPA is important for Post-High School Plans F’s earn no credit and are NEVER removed from the student’s transcript. More information available on the website or in the student planner.

Pre-Engineering (Project Lead the Way) INTRODUCTION TO PRE-ENGINEERING DESIGN (IED) – Year 1 –Co-requisites: Algebra I, a lab fee will be charged –This course uses a design development process while enriching problem-solving skills; students create and analyze models using specialized computer software. Pathway to Pre-engineering is a four-year course of study integrated into the students’ core curriculum. Combination of traditional math and science courses with innovative Pathway to Pre-Engineering courses prepares students for college major in engineering fields. Offers the the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. Courses engage students through a combination of activities-based, project-based, and problem-based learning.

Honors Courses The Honors Student: Does extra Reading…Thoroughly Answers Essay Questions…Fully Participates in Class Discussions…Does all Homework…Willingly does Research…Commits to Spending Time in Challenging Courses Students may change levels within the first 3 days of the semester…with parent permission…Beyond this, changes must be teacher initiated and only for students who are struggling with D’s or F’s Will have Required summer readings and/or projects

P.E. Waiver A way to complete one’s Physical Education requirement. Students receive no credit and no grade. Student may waive P.E. requirement by completing two full seasons of SHS athletics, cheerleading or marching band. Physical Education Waiver Application must be fill out and given to your counselor. More information can be found on the SHS Guidance Website. Students may not mix P.E. Waiver with Physical Education classes to meet the requirement. Must have 2 waivers or 2 courses, not one of each.

Credit Flexibility Credit Flexibility allows students to earn credit by demonstrating academic and skill level performance through a variety of educational options. Approved credit awarded through these guidelines will be posted on a student’s transcript and counted as required graduation credit in the related subject area or as an elective. A student must complete the Credit Flexibility Application and obtain approval PRIOR to beginning the coursework. See the SHS Guidance website for more information and the Application.

Athletic Eligibility Must pass 5 classes (not including P.E.) the quarter preceding the season. If a student earns less than 2.0 GPA during the quarter preceding the season of participation, student will be put on an Academic contract.

CCP College Credit Plus Earn High School and College Credit at the Same Time Students must apply and be accepted by the Post- Secondary Institution. Both student and parent MUST attend Mandatory Meeting on February 11 th & 12 th at 6:00 P.M. in Auditorium. If interested, indicate this when selecting your classes. At this time, indicate other courses as if you will be at SHS.

Things to remember when selecting courses: You may choose no more than 3 release periods. It can be very hard to change electives after the schedule is created. Classes can only be dropped during the first 3 days of the semester. A parent note is needed to drop/change courses. After the 3 days, level changes must be initiated by the teacher. You must have a plan for making up failed courses. Requested release time may be eliminated without notification in order to fit selected courses

On Line Registration Will be done at home Open February 23, through March 7, 2015 Go to www.strongnet.org Click on Grades in the upper right corner Enter you username and password to log into your PowerSchool account Click class registration Click in the check box to select your classes. Don’t forget to click OK after each class. Click submit after all classes have been selected.

You will be given your PowerSchool Login information in your second period class. If you do not see the class you would like, it could be because the teacher did not recommend you for the class or you did not complete the prerequisites If this is not the case, see you guidance counselor for help. Remember March 7, 2015 is the last day to register.

Keys to a Successful Year… Become an “Active Studier”… 1. “Reading Over Notes” does NOT work 2. Must make note cards or flashcards 3. Review often and out loud 4. Make Lists of materials to review 5. Moving around while studying can help 6. Check Teacher Websites 7. Ask for help from parents, teachers, & friends.

–Students should take both at least once (twice recommended) between Winter and Spring Junior year.(optional retake Senior year) –When registering, make sure the results are sent to Strongsville High School (school code is 364855 ). –Some schools require the scores sent directly to them from the testing agency (i.e. Miami & OSU). Make sure you are aware if the schools you are applying to require this. –Highly Selective school applicants: check to see if your school requires SAT Subject tests.
