It is possible to earn 3.5 units of credit per semester with a total of 7 units per year if all classes are successfully passed! Students must earn a total of 23 credits for graduation. o 4 units in Mathematics o 4 units in English/Language Arts (must include 9th Lit. and American Lit.) o 4 units in Science (must include Biology, Physics or Physical Science and Environmental Science, Earth Science or Chemistry) o 3 units in Social Studies (must include World History, US History, American Government and Economics) o 1 unit in Health and Personal Fitness (.5 Health/.5 Personal Fitness) o 3 Units in Career Tech, Fine Arts, and/or Foreign Language o 4 units in Electives

As you and your student think about the elective classes that he or she wishes to take next year, please be aware that some courses have prerequisites and some courses are sequential. Example (prerequisite): Spanish II has a prerequisite of a 70% or better in Spanish I. Example (sequential): You can’t take Broadcast Video Productions 3 if you haven’t taken 1 and 2. It should be self evident that students need to pass a class in order to be eligible for the next class in the sequence, and by passing the class students meet the prerequisite.

1. Students register for the ENTIRE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR at one time during the March registration period. 2. Every effort will be made to accommodate student selections indicated; however, the following factors may affect a student’s final schedule: A. Insufficient number of students requesting the course, and therefore the course cannot be scheduled. B. Selecting 2 courses that are taught during the same class time period. C. Choosing a course and your student’s final grade does not meet the prerequisite for the course.
7
Students will receive their course verification form in April. At that time, we will hold a one week add/drop period to make changes.
8
We do not honor teacher-preference requests. All 1600 students have preferences, and it would be impossible to honor all requests.

Summer School will be offered online this year through CVA and GaVS. Plans are also in place to have an in-person summer school program as well for select classes. More details to be announced as they become available. Afternoon tuition school will be available based on interest. If you would like to take NovaNET, please speak with your student’s Counselor. The fee is $225 (no refunds). These courses will be tuition since they will take place in the afternoon after school. Night School at Oakwood
10
1. Students will select 3 primary elective courses from those listed on the practice sheet. 2. Students will also select a minimum of 4 alternate elective courses from the practice sheet. Students should not choose more than 2 PE classes. Please be sure your student chooses alternate electives wisely as it is very likely one or more will end up on your student’s schedule. 3. Remember to look at the prerequisites required for electives. Do not choose an elective for which your student has not met the prerequisite. 4. If your student registers for an elective where he or she does not meet the prerequisite, administration will choose your student’s elective for him or her.
11
Students who receive even one of their elective choices (even if it’s an alternate elective choice) will not be eligible to request a change for a different elective next year.
12
Career Pathway Selection There are 4 College and Career Pathways and within each of the pathways there are distinct content areas of study. These content areas are sequential and the entire sequence must be completed in order to receive pathway credit from the state of Georgia. The 4 college and career pathways are : 1. Advanced Academic 2. CTAE 3. Fine Arts 4. World Languages
13
To complete a pathway your student needs to take 3 years of the same content. Example: o If your student is currently a freshman interested in Technical Theater, he or she will need to take Tech Theater 1, Tech Theater 2 and Tech Theater 3. o If your student is currently a sophomore and taking Intro to Culinary Arts, he or she would need to take Culinary Arts 1 as a junior, and Culinary Arts 2 as a senior. o If your student is currently a junior in Broadcast Video Production 2, your student shouldn’t start another intro class. We strongly urge your student to be a pathway completer and take Broadcast Video Production 3 as a senior.

Visual Arts Drama Technical Theater Band Orchestra Chorus Other Fine Arts Electives (Keyboarding, Guitar)

On the registration sheet you will notice that Beginning Guitar and Beginning Keyboarding are not pathways. The reason is that there are not 3 consecutive courses to be a pathway. o However, Beginning Guitar and Beginning Keyboarding do count as elective credit. Also, please note that AP Art History can be included in the 3 years of Visual Arts option for the Fine Arts Pathway OR it can also be taken simply for elective credit. AP Music Theory can be included in the 3 years of Band, Orchestra, Chorus Pathway option OR can be taken simply for elective credit.

Spanish German French Latin
18
A student needs 3 years of the same World Language to be considered a World Language pathway completer. o Example- If you take 1 year of French, 1 year of Spanish and 1 year of German, you are basically getting 3 years of elective credit, not pathway credit. Most 4 year colleges and universities require that applicants complete 2 years of a World Language. Some schools even require 3 years.
19
An Advanced Academic Pathway in English may be completed by passing 4 required credits in English with at least one being an AP course credit along with two years of one foreign language. The Advanced Academic Pathway in Mathematics may be completed by passing 4 required credits in Mathematics with at least one being an AP course with two years of one foreign language. The Advanced Academic Pathway in Science may also be followed by completing 4 required credits in Science with at least one being an AP course with two years of one foreign language.
