EIF is Part of GIECP - National Industry-Driven Strategies and Products Developed for Regional / Local Utility Industry Workforce Development. NEI is a founding member of CEWD, along with EEI, AGA, IPI, and other national energy associations and other national energy associations
3
Energy Industry Fundamentals Curriculum A national product developed to encourage new workers to meet employers’ workforce needs The web-based version is extending implementation to instructor-led, distance learning environments The goal is to create a pipeline of new workers with skills to compete for high wage jobs in the utility industry Designed to convey and enhance learner knowledge to pass pre-employment exams and/or to pursue additional education/training for workforce credentials Supports math skill confidence and increase problem solving skills –- essential to student success in nuclear and non-nuclear technical degree programs and jobs
4
Implementation of EIF Curriculum Targeted Student Populations: High Schools (junior and senior level) Unemployed and underemployed adults Veterans Union workers Targeted Employers: Nuclear and non-nuclear electricity generation (including solar and wind) Electric and gas transmission / distribution
5
EIF Relevance to AAS Nuclear Technology Educational Programs: Content not included in Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP) content ACAD 08-006, and QA/QC/NDE Criteria Content is also not covered in many BS Engineering degree programs EIF is designed to attract new workers to energy jobs, and conveys overall utility industry knowledge and career awareness that enhances worker productivity at NPPs and their vendors

Web-Based Version - In Brief Case- Based Scenarios Learning Approach Learning Scenarios Review Scenarios Online Content Structure and Navigation Quiz Testing
15
Case-Based Learning Approach Objective: Engage Learners Design: – Instructor led – Blended format Foundations: – Case-based learning – Provide context – Share experiences – Deeper learning through argumentation Means: – Use of scenarios – Focused instructor feedback Context Learner Guidance/ Feedback Reflection opportunity Share Experiences Argumentation Problem Solving
16
Learning Scenarios Embedded within the content (SCORM – Sharable Content Object Reference Model) Limited feedback More support – Selected topics – Placement right after relevant content – Easy navigation to and from content Scenario Introduction Question
17
Review Scenarios Less support and more responsibility – Take own stance (multiple choice question) – Seek out relevant content (essay question) Builds upon the Learning Scenario within the same module After all the content has been reviewed Set up as IMS QTI test – Automatically scored multiple choice questions – Manually scored essay questions with instructor feedback
18
Course Content (SCORM) Page header will be the same on all pages – national branding Page header will be the same on all pages – national branding Special content sections formatting is similar to that in the printed version In blue are glossary words. Keep the cursor over the word for a few seconds and the glossary definition is shown.
