WHAT IS AN ARBORLOO? 4 Ecological outhouse Pit dug & supports in place Arborloo set up Arborloo removed &tree planted Combat deforestation in Haiti

Wind resistance during Type I hurricanes Test collapsibility of arborloo Ensure safety in case of dislodgement Why is this a Senior Design project? Engineering skillset required to ensure all objectives are met – CFD, Force Analysis, Safety Engineering, Modeling, Cost Efficiency Set foundation for which all future arborloo designs can be tested off of WHY IS THE STAND IMPORTANT? 5
6
6 The primary objective of this project is to design a scale model and a full-size test stand that will help determine the wind resistance of various arborloo designs. The scale model test stand should replicate the forces experienced by a Class I hurricane, and the results should be easily comparable to the lower speed, full-size results. Both test stands should allow for safe testing of various arborloo sizes, shapes, and materials. PROJECT STATEMENT
7
7 Create test rig & procedure for scale testing Simulate Type I hurricanes Measure wind speed, forces Create test procedure for full size testing Recommendations for future design of arborloos PROJECT STATEMENT
8
8 Deliverables: Scale model and full-size test set- up and procedure Test Plan Means of comparing results from scale model and full-size testing Design drawings and Bill of Materials Assembly instructions Clearly documented test results Objectives/Scope: Determine the appropriate fluid and scale needed to replicate a Class I hurricane Design a test stand than can be used for multiple different arborloo designs and configurations Demonstrate reliable and repeatable results PROJECT SUMMARY
9
9 Assumptions & Constraints: Budget: $800 Scale model must utilize existing fluid flow analysis equipment in KGCOE, while keeping current set-ups intact Test stand must protect surrounding people and infrastructure from flying debris Expected Project Benefits: Arborloo designs can be tested to find the optimal design to be used in Haiti Test stand can be used by other senior design groups to evaluate their arborloo designs PROJECT SUMMARY
10
10 Software – Modeling arborloo designs with CFD software Sensors – Using and collecting data from sensors – Determining appropriate sensor types Issues & Risks: Project Understanding and Digesting By Team – Understanding of Class I hurricanes – Determining critical locations to measure moment and forces Available Resources – Obtaining Resources – Order Parts/Hardware – Lead Time PROJECT SUMMARY
