12 12 Educational System Credits:  European Credits Transfer System (EC)  Each year consists of 60 EC  1 EC is approximately equal to 28 study hours  Each course is 6 EC  Each course has to be passed (grade 6 or higher)

17 17 First Year Honours Programme  Eligibility: (1) 30 EC in first semester of first year (2) grade average of 7.5 or higher  Honours programme comprises 30 credits  Courses are interdisciplinary  BSc diploma + Honours diploma

18 18 First Year Binding Study Advice (BSA)  At least 42 EC (out of 60) including ‘Mathematics & Statistics 1’ during the first year  Personal circumstances (illness, death of a relative, etc) should be reported asap to the Study Advisor  Decision by Board of Examiners

21 21 Second and Third Year Economics: Money and Banking, Finance, Micro II, Macro II, International Trade and Money, Intermediate Statistics, Mathematical Economics, Econometrics, etc Economics & Finance: overlap with Economics (second year), but more focus on Management Accounting, Advanced Corporate Finance, Investment and Portfolio Theory, etc Business Studies: Marketing, Organizational Psychology, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Accounting, etc

22 22 Third Year Regular or Minor? Minor:  Available for both Economics and Business Studies  Consists of 30 EC (one semester)  Particularly suited for students that want to:  follow minor at the UvA  spend a semester abroad (e.g. ERASMUS programme) in one of our 100 foreign partner universities

23 23 Career Prospects Economics: positions in government bodies, multinational companies and international organizations Economics & Finance: positions in financial departments of multinational companies and financial institutions Business Studies: qualifies students for commercial and management positions, such as: organizational consultant, strategic manager, account manager, etc

24 24 Students >500 applications for 2012-13 199 accepted; 179 confirmed 46% female, 54% male students Origin: 26% Dutch, 24% NW/SW European, 31% Eastern European, 16% Asian, 3% other 32 nationalities in this cohort Around 40-50 nationalities in BSc programme
