Challenges in the work field: Advancement of technology has dramatically changed the way people hire today. You can’t just hand in your resume and expect to get a job. Do not memorize answers, it may insult the interviewer. Canned answers are not accepted

Facts: Be who you are, don’t try to take others answers. A persons greatest asset is THEIR VALUES! Others are attracted to your confidence!

How do interviewers choose the right person for the job? They rate 20% for skills and 80% for who you are. -pick out your values and assets and be able to articulate those with confidence. Refresh your memory-think of things you have accomplished throughout your life and write them down. ex: volunteer work, home projects, class projects, delivering papers, military..

CORE PRINCIPALS OF ACTION SERIES Morals: fundamental belief - ex: honor Values: what you want in life – ex: relationship, lifestyle, time, money or state of mind Personality traits: what people may think of you, or what you think of yourself. ex: ambition, persistence or determination

MVP+P.E.= Power Story Power Story- include all of the following 1. Morals 2. Values 3. Personality Traits 4. Personality Experience (P.E.) A Power Story brings together your personal experience and MVP’S. It reinforces who you are! Use MVP in the first sentence, it’s the message you want to convey.

The Formula for Surviving Interview Questions: 1.Mirror the question 2.Provide a simple answer 3.Provide MVP or Power Story 4.Restate the question and answer

Learn, Apply, and have fun with the formula. -make up practice stories. Practice Interviews with another person

Practice Question: Promote MVP to prove how you have changed due to the experience. (shows value)

Resume’s and Cover Letters: GOAL: Become the #1 candidate You want to achieve the highest score Provide support for why you say who you are Promote yourself with confidence Convey value in cover letter and market yourself

If there is a decrease in confidence, people don’t promote themselves in the way they should. - too worried about why they won’t get the job instead of why they should get the job.

Contact information (not on the top, or missing the phone #) Not in the right format (Microsoft Word) Make sure to use the same font and font size throughout resume 40% of resume’s are so general it’s hard to tell if they’re a good candidate or not.

A good resume needs to be: Clear Concise Organized Have an inviting Feeling

Success Portfolio binder with plastic sleeves to insert paper in. Includes: Images (photos, logos, flyers, sketches, diagrams.) Text (written plan, articles, letters of recommendation, certificates) Example: comparisons (before & after)= Team stress-Convey MVP and Promote yourself! * Use every page to promote yourself!

Ways to help you Succeed: Explain why your MVP is not equal with others Never talk bad about the company. Promote yourself in a neat powerful way by presenting your portfolio. (Takes 15 minutes out of the interview) -Not many people do a portfolio, so you’ll STAND OUT!

Four Paragraph Cover Letter: 1.Express the position you’re applying for & express your interest in the company. 2.How you found out about the position-be CREATIVE. – bullet your MVPs. ex: your experience and what you’ve learned 3. How to fill the needs of the company - relay what MVP you’re offering to the company 4. Include contact information on Cover Letter! * Ask what the employers looks for in their employees.

Resume’s Role -a brochure to promote yourself Substance on the paper is the most important! Highlight: (1)Career Objective (2)Books read (3)Seminars taken ex: self help. (4) 4-6 MVP traits (5)Awards & Honors (6)Colleges & GPA’s (7)Technical skills (8)Experiences (prove who you say you are) Always include full contact information on the top, centered. (If there are 2, write them both on the top.)

Tips for a good Resume: Every bullet must include a result, action, or need (try to include all 3 & even some MVPs.) Examples of result, action & need Leave a lot of white space Make your resume stand out Have your friends read it to see if its inviting Make your resume visually appealing!
