The steering group will need to meet on a regular basis to discuss progress with the self-assessment, generate ideas across disciplines and promote ownership of the project.

It is recommended, that 50 records for patients who are discharged and have been admitted to the unit within 3 months be chosen randomly for assessment.

The core of self-assessment is better understanding of the organization and identifying potentials for quality improvement.
