District Rotary Foundation Seminar By the end of this session, participants should be able to: –Explain district grant eligibility –Apply to their district for funding from the district grant designated funds –Understand the types of activities funded with district grants

District Rotary Foundation Seminar Rotary Foundation Mission To enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants What are district grants? District grants fund smaller, short-term activities that address needs in both your local community and communities worldwide. Each district gets to choose which activities it will fund with these grants.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants Include active Rotarian participation Adhere to stewardship guidelines Demonstrate cultural sensitivity Activities align with Foundation’s mission

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants $40,000 available for the District 2013-2014 year! There is no minimum award amount from for a District grant, regardless of qualified activity type. The District Fund award amount for District 5470 in 2013- 2014 is as follows: $3,000 per grant with one club participating $4,000 with two participating $5,000 with three or more participating Request Received by May 31 st.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants District 5470 Grant Considerations: You can use district grants to fund a variety of activities which will be determined by the District Grant Committee, including: Humanitarian projects, disaster recovery efforts, small capital projects, some scholarships may be considered (departure from the past). Some smaller international projects may be considered but local project will receive priority. International projects do not required a Rotary Club partner. Grants will be matched with District Designated funds. A grant may be awarded on merit alone without a club match. (Clubs participating financially will get priority). Travel Expenses are generally not covered.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants District 5470 Grant Considerations Continued: Proposals required for all projects A simple grant application with supplemental information will be required before grant is approved. Acceptance of a proposal does not guarantee a grant will be awarded. Any certified club in District 5470 may submit a proposal.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar Certification All Clubs must be certified annually by attending an in-person district provided training The club president and president elect must sign an MOU, send to GG chair District and Clubs must have a financial plan. All documents supporting grants must be retained All cash receipts must be kept At this time, club certification cannot be done on line

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District 5470 Grant Requirements Overall Requirements: A committee of at least 3 Rotarians from the sponsoring club to oversee the project. Direct involvement of Rotarians is required and they are responsible for the following: –Assessment of Community needs and development of a project plan (What-Who does it serve?) –Financial stewardship of Grant funds - Grant funds may not be turned over to a cooperating organization. –Evidence of community involvement and ownership –Promotion of the project in local media –See check list in handout materials to confirm the project meets the requirements.

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District 5470 Grant Requirements District Grant Committee Review Items: Basics: –Timeliness –Grant Certified Club (Training and MOU on file) –Complete Information (signatures, financial plan, designated bank account, etc.) –Meets Eligible Criteria (Humanitarian, Educational, etc.) –Aligns With The Rotary Foundation Mission. –No Outstanding Reporting From Previous Grants Merit: (In no particular order) –Number of beneficiaries and/or cultural sensitivity –Number of Rotarians/Clubs involved –Financial commitment from the club and/or partners –Rotary exposure in the community –TRF Contribution commitment

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grant Examples $3,200 for school kitchen equipment $1,750 to support after-school program for at-risk youth $2,000 to provide short-term scholarships to children to further their studies $4,600 to support reforestation (Multiple Clubs) Potential International Grants with successful past experience

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants Submission Timeline: –Certification –Signed MOU –Submit Grant Proposal (May 31st 2013) –Once finished submit Final report to District (must be done by May 31, 2014).

District Rotary Foundation Seminar District 5470 Grants Summary 1. All District Grant requests need to be submitted to the District 5470 District Grant chair by May 31, 2013 2. Must support the MISSION of TRF: 3. No minimum budget, Maximum request is $3,000 (one club) 4. Short term impact- can be local or international 5. Can support scholars for any level of study locally or internationally- this will be a committee decision. 6. Active Rotarian involvement 7. Adheres to grant terms and conditions. Club is financially responsible to see project is completed or money will have to be returned to RI
