2  Meet for a week, discuss camera functions, South Africa history, animal facts, compositional skills  Travel to South Africa, have class, go on game drives, hikes, see presentations, and enjoy the sights  Return for a week, construct a Blurb book including at least 20 “A” level photographs and travel writing. Print some photos. CLASS OBJECTIVES

11  Skukuza site has a bank, others sites have ATM’s  ATMs are a good way to get cash or rand  Try to avoid airport conversion booths  Might be good to carry R200-500 on you while in the park, but it is not necessary really. BANKING

12 Electricity United States South Africa 120 volts220 volts Nearly all modern electronics are now dual-voltage, so no need for a converter. You can verify this by finding the raised-letter specs on the charger (sometimes printed on a label); it'll say something like Input: 110v-240v.

14  Take any prescription medication you need, bring enough for ten days. If you need to tell me about any condition, do it now, don’t be shy.  Get Cipro for possible sicky tummy do to foreign substances in water.  Malaria pills are usefull too, just in case  Typhoid and Hepatitis shots are recommended MEDICATIONS

15  Keep it to one personal bag and one camera bag  Keep your luggage in front of you as much as possible.  Wear a money belt if traveling out and about.  Keep your stuff inside your bag when not in use, lock it if possible. BAGS

16  Try to keep it to one bag for personal stuff, one camera bag  Shorts and tshirts will be enough must days, pick something that will be comfortable and breathable…khaki, green, earth tones are best. Avoid white, it will get dusty.  Bring a fleece or windbreaker you can wear on a cool morning, and shed off later. Have khaki or cotton pants for evenings  Bring a hat, the sun will be out, and sun tan lotion.  Good socks and shoes for light hiking  There is laundry and showers, so you can limit the amount of clothes you can bring. CLOTHES

17  Toiletries, thin, easy dry towels  Any personal medications or products  Journal (required)  Longjohns, if you really get cold  Insect repellent wipes  Aspirin, imodium, pepto  Travel pillow OTHER GOODS

18  DSLR Camera (at least one)  Lens (200 mm focal length or above)  Camera bag  UV Filter, check lens size  Monopod or Travel tripod  Multiple batteries and a charger  Image cards (32 gb or above, preferably multiples) PHOTO STUFF

21  Bring at least 30 gb of memory  Bring an extra camera battery too if possible MEMORY CARDS

22 Friday, July 25 th 2014  12:35pm Emirates Airlines Flight 222 to Dubai  Carpool at 7:35 am on Friday morning…meet in Fine Arts parking lot  12:20 pm (July 26 th ) arrive in Dubai, leave for Joburg at 2:40 PM – arrive at 8:50 pm FLIGHT INFO

23 South African Airways – Washington DC to O.R. Tambo Airport -Johannesburg (Duration 15 plus 8 equals 23 hours)

24  Ambien CR (the extra stregnth kind), or Xanax, Melotonin, whatever….test it out first  Goes well a free glass of wine (that is ONE glass)  Bring ipods, kindles, ipads, but don’t overdo it, try to keep your valuables in one bag that you can lock up. Journal is required btw.  Bring extra chargers and batteries if possible  (get a portable charger) TO TAKE ON THE FLIGHT

25  Buy a phone  When you call someone at home, remember you will be 7 hours ahead of them. So if it is 9pm in Africa, then it will be 2pm in Texas. AFTER THE FLIGHT
