UC PERSONAL STATEMENT Purpose Adds clarity, depth and meaning to information collected in other parts of the UC application Helps readers know and understand applicants and answer any questions that may come to the evaluator’s mind Instructions Respond to both prompts 1000 words total Shorter answer should be no less than 250 words Type answers in a Word document and cut & paste to application

UC PERSONAL STATEMENT Tips Write personal statement in context of academic transcript/test scores (review these items critically- explain what is not obvious) Explain who you are in your statement- not your mother, clergyman, brother, teachers, etc. Focus your answers- do not need to respond to all items being asked for- choose one area that is most relevant Draft, get feedback and revise DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO WRITE YOUR STATEMENT!!

UC Eligibility in the Local Context Those that are in the top 9% of their graduating class qualify as ELC Students will be notified of their ELC status 4-6 weeks after their application has been submitted To maintain the ELC status a student must:  Satisfy the general admissions requirements,  Maintain a 3.0 GPA, and  Submit an official copy of ACT with Writing or SAT Reasoning Test scores.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS DECISIONS Most CSU & UC Campuses will notify students of admissions decision by March 2014 Private Colleges will notify students of admissions decisions on a rolling basis, depending on school- most decisions should be made by March Conditions of Admission *Complete all coursework reported in the application with appropriate grades *Notify campus in a timely manner of deficient grades in the fall or spring of senior year *Notify campus of any change in course selection
