2 The Bush Grant seeks to support the University of Mary’s information literacy competence by utilizing the following outcomes : The student will:

3 1.Recognize the need for information and formulate questions based on the information needed. 2.Identify potential sources of information. 3.Develop successful information search strategies. 4.Evaluate information critically. 5.Use the information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose. 6.Understand the ethical, legal and social issues surrounding the use of information. 7.Access and use information ethically and legally.

4 2.Identify potential sources of information. 3.Develop successful information search strategies. 5.Use the information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose. The CIS 101: Introduction to Computers project supports three of the Bush Grant outcomes: The student will:

5 1.Recognize the horrors of the Holocaust. 2.Recognize the role of Elie Wiesel within the Holocaust. In addition to supporting the Bush Grant outcomes, CIS 101 is attempting to support the University of Mary Campus Read, “Night” by Elie Wiesel. The student will:

6 Of course, like all courses of study, CIS 101 must also meet its original outcomes. A core outcome of the course is to make sure students can use the Microsoft Office suite of applications, therefore: The student will: 1. Browse and search the World Wide Web using Internet Explorer and various search tools. 2.Create Word documents. 3.Create Excel worksheets. 4.Create PowerPoint presentations. 5.Create a Web site using MS Office applications. (All of the application concepts shall be linked to the Holocaust.)

7 In summary, this presentation has: 1. Presented a definition of “Information Literacy” as established by the University of Mary. 2.Listed the “Information Literacy Outcomes” utilized by the BUSH Grant. 3.Listed the three outcomes upon which the CIS 101: Introduction to Computers project will focus. 4.Listed the CIS 101 outcomes relating to the Campus Read of “Night” by Elie Wiesel. 5.Listed the CIS 101 core outcomes relating to the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
