AEM submitted a proposal to ESO on 2006/04/13: TM05 Introduction of Class A and Class B changes Class A change is applied to major changes and requires formal ESO approval before starting the implementation. Class B change is applied to minor change: no CRE is issued to ESO, AEM implements the change. The change is then reported to ESO within released documents (as part of document change record). ESO answered to AEM proposal on 2006/06/01: TM 26 ESO confirms that configuration control is to be applied from PPDR closure. ESO requests information on Class B change prior to implementation. ESO wants to formally agree on change classification. New proposal for class A & B definition (nearly all changes will be class A) CRE Policy : recall on history

Apply the Configuration Control as defined by the SOW section 6.6 No need for further discussions and delays in order to define new procedures. Configuration Control to be applied to documents as defined by the SOW: SOW Section 6.5: “All applicable technical documents, which define the end product, shall be put under configuration control at PPDR”. SOW appendix 1 defines the project milestone at which a document becomes applicable. CRE Policy : New proposal from AEM (1/2)

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden CRE Policy, Labelling 2006/06/22 - Toulouse ANTD-3300000-1-002-SFP Page 7 ESO Technical specification (sections 9.5 & 9.6) : As a general rule the main parts and all exchangeable units shall be equipped with nameplates which are visible after installation of the part/unit and which contain the following information: Part/unit name Drawing number including revision Serial number Manufacturing month and year Name of manufacturer. Alternatively a system of marking based on barcodes or similar system may be used upon approval by ALMA All cables and switches, junction boxes, sensors, and similar equipment shall be labeled. Electrical cabinets, switch panels, UPS, and all electrical equipment which can be manually operated or is relevant for safety shall be labeled in English and Spanish. SOW (section 6.5): Produce a Configuration Item marking plan which uniquely identifies each configuration item according to the requirements of Section 9 of AD 01 (ESO Technical specification). Requirements on labelling

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden CRE Policy, Labelling 2006/06/22 - Toulouse ANTD-3300000-1-002-SFP Page 8 Labelling shall be applied officially at : Complete antenna level Configuration Item (CI) level (main parts) LRU level (Lowest Replaceable Unit) (exchangeable units) Consumable parts are not labelled, the reference to the lot number will appear in the log of activities. ESO provides the labelling for all the parts delivered to AEM for integration with the antenna. Some specific marking could be available on parts at lower level than LRU : To be decided on case by case, according to the pertinence and feasibility. The marking may not follow AEM rules : e.g. manufacturer marking. The PDM shall trace (as-Built Status): Any update at LRU level Updates at lower level than LRU : log and batch or lot number. Information on Part/unit name, Drawing number including revision, Serial number, Manufacturing month and year and Name of manufacturer will be provided by WAND and are not present on the labelling plate Configuration Item marking plan to be included in the configuration control plan (DRD-03). Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden CRE Policy, Labelling 2006/06/22 - Toulouse ANTD-3300000-1-002-SFP Page 10 AEM proposes a numbering scheme for parts : The first number identifies the generic part within the generic parts list for this configuration item. The second number (after the “.”) is the instance number for this generic part. It identifies the serial production number for the part if the part is specifically produced for ALMA or the subcontractor serial production number if the part is a commercial product (e.g. electric motor). This labelling do not mention antenna number : Parts are not attached to a specific antenna From the information on the label, Wand shall identify the antenna number where this part is installed. Also Wand shall provide the complete list of parts together with their complete references for a given antenna number. A specific label (big plate, e.g., on the antenna base) will identify the antenna number. Wand shall be updated when a part is moved from one antenna to another antenna. The model digit (F, P) is not present on the label but is available in Wand database. Proposal on Labelling

Provide all the label plates for its parts and perform their labelling. Update the PDM tool with the parts labelling information. Keep updated these information inside the PDM tool.

The cable labelling shall be repeated every 5 meters. Source and destination defined by Configuration Item reference and part & serial number (e.g. ANTD-3335030_03.15). Multiple board and port devices : the board number is identified with /02 and the port number with /05 (e.g. ANTD-3335030_03.15/02/05).
