3
3 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials General Designer must select materials that are suitable for the expected application and intended lifetime 1
4
4 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials Joining materials Meet certain requirements both individually and in joined structure Joining procedure qualification & Coupon plate testing 2

8 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials Harmonised Standards Part 2 - Table A1or A2 Product Standards, e.g. EN 12952 – Water Tube boilers EN 12953 – Shell boilers EN 13445 – Unfired Pressure Vessels EN 13480 – Industrial Piping 4

9 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials regularly used for Pressure Equipment Applied for by Manufacturer of PE or material New materials may require testing Issued by Notified Body May take many months to publish in OJ When approved may be used by any manufacturer Materials EAMs 4
10
10 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials EAMs EAMs Issued to date: Nickel 201 Four different product forms Hastelloy Plate in different alloys Alloy 600 Four different product forms 4
11
11 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 PMA Notified Body performs particular appraisal for equipment in Cats III & IV Provide evidence of compliance with allowable specification, i.e. Harm Std, EAM, PMA No set format for documentation. Manufacturer ensures material is suitable for “particular” application and meets ESRs for material If specific quantitative requirements not met, justification required (equivalent overall level of safety?) Decisions made concerning one material do not have to repeated Materials PMAs Any material may be used providing: 4
12
12 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Materials must: Material Certification Cat 1 - (2.2) Cat II, III, IV - (3.1) Cat 1 - Certificate of conformity be accompanied by documentation issued by the material manufacturer affirming conformance to a specification. Cat II, III, IV - specific product control - e.g. (EN 10204 - 3.1) - {prepared by material manufacturer} Materials Certification 5
13
13 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Material Certification e.g. ISO 9001-2000 Certification Body Established in EU Material manufacturer’s certificate acceptable only if: Material manufacturer has Quality System, e.g. ISO 9000, approved by competent body established in EU, If not: independent witness, e.g. (EN 10204-3.2) Guideline 7/5 Materials Certification 5
14
14 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 Certificates of conformity EN 10204 - 2.2 Not main pressure part unless failure causes catastrophic release of pressureMaterials Bolting Certification Joining Materials Welding Consumables Appropriate properties Certificate of conformity EN 10204 – 2.2 5
15
15 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 2.2 Manufacturer declares conformance with order with test results based on non specific inspection 2.1 Manufacturer declares conformance with order without test results Materials EN 10204:2004 5 Inspection documents based on non- specific inspections EN 10204 revised to ensure material certification requirements meet PED
16
16 Taiex - Bratislava April 2005 3.2 Manufacturer and Inspection body declares conformance with order with test results supplied Materials EN 10204:2004 5 Inspection documents based on specific inspections 3.1 Manufacturer declares conformance with order AND test results Tests and frequency per product specification and order Validated by manufactures authorised representative May transfer data from incoming product providing traceability maintained Validated by manufactures authorised representative and Independent body May transfer data from incoming product providing traceability maintained
