15. THE DANUBE- BLACK SEA CANAL
Inaugurated in May, 1984, has the following technical particulars:
65 km length, 90 m width,
7 m depth,
5.5 m current draught,
17m bridge clearance ,
10-12 km/h sailing speed
The canal is accessible to the river-maritime ships up to 5,000 dwt, with a total length of 138 m, 16.8 m breadth and 5.5 m draught.
Across the canal can sail convoys up to 6 barges, with a total length of 296 m, breadth of m and 3.8 m draught (3000 tons each).
Alongside the canal there are 2 commercial ports: Basarabi and Medgidia , where various operations can be performed, such as : loading-discharging, cargo storing and passenger transit.
