Andres Velez Period E LAYERS C The less dense compounds make up earth´s crust while the densest compounds make up the core, because the less dense things have less mass than the denser things, which make them weight more, which means that the core will attract the denser things more with gravity. The three layers of the earth, based on their chemical composition, are the crust, made out of mainly aluminium, silicon, and oxygen, the mantle which is made principally with magnesium but less silicon and aluminium than the crust does. Finally, there is the core which is made mostly of iron, and small amounts of nickel, but almost no aluminium, oxygen, silicon, or magnesium. Three elements that make up most of the earth´s crust are Silicon, Aluminium, and Oxygen. The oceanic crust is denser that the continental crust because it contains almost twice as much Magnesium, Calcium, and Iron. Magnesium and less Aluminium and Silicon I think that the scientists look to the ocean floor to research about the mantle, now that magma from this layer floats out of the active volcanoes to the ocean floor, which has given them a lot of clues about the mantle.

silicon The element that makes up most of the earth´s core is the iron. 33% percent of the earth´s mass is made up by the core. B A D E C C Tectonic plates are like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle because, the lithosphere is like a jigsaw puzzle, and the tectonic plates are like it´s pieces, and, each tectonic plate fits together with the other tectonic plates that surround it. Two kinds of crust that a tectonic plate may contain are, the continental and the oceanic crust.

Three ways that tectonic plates floating on the asthenosphere are similar to ice cubes filling a punch bowl are that if there are enough ice cubes to cover the surface of the punch, they both bump into one another. Another way is that they both float on a type of surface, and finally, the thicker plates or ice cubes displace the surface they float in more than the thinner ones. D C A seismic wave traveling through a solid material will go faster than a seismic wave traveling through liquid one, because seismic waves travel inside the earth at different speeds, depending on the density and composition of material that they pass through.
