Ordinals Overall Objectives
1. Teach the words “First”, “Second”, “Third”… “Tenth”. 2. Match words to numerical representation (ex: First = 1st, Second = 2nd) 3. Understand the ordinal positions (Sequencing 1 to 10)

Ordinals Required Materials File folder games / Manipulatives.
Pocket display chart & white boards / markers.

Ordinals Sunshine State Standards
This lesson plan will partially address the following Sunshine State Standard for Mathematics K-1: Benchmark MA.A.1.1.1: The student associates verbal names, written word names, and standard numerals with the whole numbers less than 1000. Grade Level Expectations (K to First) The student: Knows the cardinal numbers to indicate quantity and ordinal numbers to indicate position. Uses ordinal numbers 1st – 10th or higher

Assist the student : Placing the ordinal position cards next to the appropriate number. Assist the student : Placing the number word cards next to the appropriate number. Procedures / Activities: Set up the pocket chart as follows: Ask the student to refer to the pocket chart and tell you what to draw first, second, etc. As the student answers, ask them to draw it on their white board. At the end of this activity the student should have drawn SpongeBob in the following sequence………… See next slide for an animated view of the sequence

Ordinals Evaluation Significant Progress : Student engages in activities, completes file folder games independently with 80% accuracy. Satisfactory Progress : Student engages somewhat in activities, completes file folder games with some prompting. No Progress : Student does not engage in activities, can not complete file folder games with prompting.
