General Activities Activity #1: Neo natal visit -Students will visit a neo-natal Unit and talk to the nurses. Activity #2: Muslim paper - Students will write a paper on the belief system of Islam using APA format. Activity #3: Note Cards - Students will create note cards for an ESL student. Activity #4: Visit a Buddhist Temple - Students will visit a Buddhist Temple. Activity #5: Reflective Journal - Students will reflect on their visit to a Buddhist Temple.

Teacher Resources Activities Activity #1: Diversity Bingo -Students try to find other students who fit the different Bingo squares. Activity #2: Reflective Journal -Students make daily entries in a journal exploring their culture and how it affects them.

Activity #3: Family Occupation Tree - Students will talk to at least one parent and one grandparent (similar age if not available) and ask about jobs they have done in their life time. Students will then compile the information and compare it with jobs they have already done. They will create an occupational tree. Activity #4: Research on Welfare to Work Students will use the library and the Internet to research the Welfare to Work Laws. Students will then debate both sides in a classroom debate. These activities are from PBS.org

Activity #5: Adapting to Cultural Differences - Students will read a two scenarios and then write a response about what they would do in that situation. - After students are done writing their responses, the class will have a discussion about what each person would do. This activity is from the Teaching Tolerance Website.

Age Discrimination Activities Activity #1: Interview a Senior Citizen Students need to interview a member of the 60 and over age group. –Students need to ask about the Senior’s life growing up. –Students need to ask about the Senior’s family. –Students need to ask about the Senior’s view on what topics are important to them. What issues do they face today? –Student needs to ask if they have advice for how to have a good life. Students will write a two to three page paper about their interview. The font size should be 12 and margins should be 1 inch.

Activity #2: Family Genealogy - Find out how far back can you trace your family roots? - Get family member names, birth, marriage, divorce, and death dates. Places which they lived and dates they were there. - See how many pictures you can gather on your past family members. - Choose to make either a family tree or a narrative of your families history ending with you.

Activity #3 Research on Age Discrimination Use the websites given to research the sources of Age Discrimination. Print out information you find.

Activity #4: Class Discussion - What was the life of the Senior Citizen you interviewed like? - Did that person have any advice for you on how to avoid any mistakes they may have made? - How far back can you trace your family tree? - Tell us a little about your family’s history? - What is Age discrimination? - Did anyone you know ever face Age discrimination? - What can we do to try and help those facing Age discrimination?

Activity #5: Solutions Paper on Age Discrimination. Write at least a 4 page paper on the causes, effects and solutions to Age Discrimination. Use 12 point font and one inch margins.

Activity #1: Reflective Journal -Students write a reflective journal on what their belief system is and what their perceptions are on other belief systems. Activity #2: Research Another Religion - Students will pick another religion and use websites given to find out more about it. Activity #3: Beliefnet quiz - Students will pick a quiz off of Beliefnet and complete it. Students need to print of the results page. Class Activities Activity #1: Article and Reflection - Students will pick an article off of The Cyber Herald. - Students will write a response in their journals about what they read and any questions they have. Activity #2: Internet Research - Students will research the affects of Class on poverty and homelessness using the websites given before. Students will hand in a bibliography of sites they gathered information from. Activity #3: Data on History of Poverty level - Students will use past Censuses to figure out what was poverty level in the past and where it is now. Students will reflect in their journals about the information they have gathered recently.

Activity #4: Class Debate - Students will debate both sides of the poverty and homelessness issues. Activity #5: Solutions Paper - Students will write a three to four page paper giving solutions to how we could solve the issues of poverty and homelessness.

Exceptionalities Activities Activity #1: Define exceptionalities -Students will break into groups and define what they think exceptionalities are. Activity #2: Internet Search - Students use sites given to define exceptionalities and find resources. Activity #3: Interview family member - Students need to interview a family member about what they think exceptionalities are.

Disability Activities Activity #1: Victim’s Story - Students will find a victim of the Holocaust with a disability. Activity #2: Victim Journal -Students will create a series of journal entries from the victims point of view. Activity #3: Armband Game -Students will find out what it is like to be excluded from society. Activity #4: Cartoon Truth or Tale -Students will analyze a Nazi Cartoon. Activity #5: Commemorative Plates -Students will create a Commemorative Plate for their victim.

Gender Activities Activity #1: Stereotypes - Students will define and discuss Stereotypes. Activity #2: Magazine Discussion - Students will discuss stereotypes in popular magazines. Race Activities Activity #1: Fairy Tale - Students will pick a fairy tale and change the race of the characters. Activity #2: Leader Research - Students will pick a prominent race leader (other than MLK) and write a paper about that leader. Activity #3: Race Bibliography -Students will create a bibliography on the topic of Race.

Sexual Orientation Activities Activity #1: Exploring Websites -Go to one of the websites given before and see what you can do to help students. Activity #2: Showing Support -Make buttons or a t-shirt to show support. Activity #3: Attend a meeting - Attend a meeting for a local support group for either students or their friends and families. Activity #4: Reflective Paper -Write a reflective paper about your feelings before, during and after you attended the meeting. Use MLA format with 12 point font. Activity #5: Crossing the Line - Students will experience oppression and discuss how they reacted to it.
