Fall MPS clinic participation was low – light and location barriers Logistically difficult to manage both player and coach development activities effectively Our town program needed a more focused coach development approach This change allows coaches to apply what they have learned in the fall season during the spring

The priorities are to ensure we have an integrated player and coach development philosophy and that we are supporting the success and enjoyment of all our members.

Marlborough Youth SoccerCoaches Meeting - Spring 2012 Coach Dev. - Coaches Licenses MYSA (Mass Youth Soccer Association) offer progression coaching licenses to all coaches of youth soccer, we highly recommend these courses and will pay for any coach who is willing to get accredited. +

Observation a. Watch your players/team i. In games ii. In training sessions b. Watch your opponents 2. Organization a. Progression…simple to complex b. Equipment c. Time d. Field space e. Players 3. Demonstration…Paint the picture 4. Information…Feedback to players

Marlborough Youth SoccerCoaches Meeting - Spring 2012 Lesson Plan Organization Organization…simple to complex Warm-up activity No pressure or light pressure from opponents Pressure from ball and imposed demands Small sided game activity Introduce pressure of opponent(s) Does not have to be directional, but the more it looks like the game the better it is for the development of the players Expanded small sided game activity Increase number of players Directional Looks like the game Scrimmage (game) with appropriate numbers Let’s play soccer The game with the rules

Marlborough Youth SoccerCoaches Meeting - Spring 2012 Guided Discovery By asking our players questions to which they must come up with answers, we can insure that our players are thinking, as opposed to mindlessly following our directions. Low Order Questions – e.g. what’s the best part of the foot to use when making a short accurate pass to a teammate High Order Questions - e.g. how can we get the ball down the field faster Guided Questions – e.g Where would be a good place to pass the ball if you wanted your teammate to move into space
