Rights: to safety, choose, be informed, heard, have problems corrected, consumer education Consumer protection: Better Business Bureau-deal with complaints against local merchants (truth in advertising) Consumer advocates- groups whose sole purpose is to take on regional, national, and even international consumer issues (test products and protect public when problem arises or exposes health fraud)

Local, state, and federal agencies- ensure consumer rights are protected: FTC-prevent false advertising, FDA- medicines are safe and properly labeled Consumer product safety commission- protects against harmful products-recalls Local and state courts handle legal disputes under a certain limit
