Wind energy is one of the green energy resources in the world. It has grown rapidly as an important electricity source and replace polluting and exhausting fossil fuel. Most wind turbines use induction generators, squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG), doubly-fed-induction-generators (DFIG) or permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG). Recently, the electric grid require taking into account the reactive power of the wind farm in order to contribute to the network stability, thus operating the wind farm as active compensator devices. STATCOM technology to have the capability to increase stability and improve system dynamic response following disturbances. The STATCOM with reduced capacitor bank can decrease the voltage fluctuations of multi-machine power system as well as wind generator terminals. I. INTRODUCTION Wind power

So the application of STATCOMs is to increase power quality and to reduce voltage flicker. This is also studied for wind power systems stability. With developments of the Matlab/Simulik simulation software and the new Sim-Power-Systems toolbox. In this paper using Matlab/Simulik/Simpowersystem to present: Model and simulation of wind farm using STATCOM to regulate reactive power at the grid point-of-connection (POC), reduce voltage flicker. In two case, wind farm use SCIG wind turbines without STATCOM and with STATCOM. I. INTRODUCTION Wind power

II. WIND TURBINE GENERATOR MODEL -The stator winding is connected directly to the grid. -The rotor is driven by the wind turbine. -The power captured by the wind turbine is converted into electrical power by the induction generator and is transmitted to the grid by the stator winding. -The pitch angle is controlled in order to limit the generator output power to its nominal value for high wind speeds. -In order to generate power the induction generator speed must be slightly above the synchronous speed. -The reactive power absorbed by the induction generator is provided by the grid or by some devices like capacitor banks, SVC, STATCOM Wind power Figure2- SCIG model Description Wind turbine generator model
