“Rebirth” in Europe: ________________________________________________________ Loosening the power of the Church o During the Middle Ages, art and learning were centered on the church and religion o At the start of the 14th century, people became less interested in thinking about God, heaven and the saints o Instead, they began thinking about themselves, their surroundings and their everyday lives This is the beginning of the Renaissance! A renaissance is a rebirth or revival of learning.

“Rebirth” in Europe: ________________________________________________________ Renaissance: o The Renaissance was a time of cultural and artistic renewal o As a result of this “rebirth”, Europe will finally start to pull itself out of the Middle Ages The Middle Ages are ending? Well, that only took about 1000 years.
