What do you remember?
2
“Life is organized in a hierarchical manner, increasing in complexity from its basis in atoms to molecules and then in sequence to organelles, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems, and the biosphere.”
3
Humans Each part of the body has a specific job to do 1.Cells are the smallest unit 2.Tissue consists of living cells that are that are widely separated form one another by hard, nonliving material 3.Organs contain different kinds of tissue 4.Organ System made up of over 200 bones and other parts
4
Multicellular Organisms Hierarchy CellsTissuesOrganOrgan System The building blocks of matter, called atoms, lie at the base of life's organizational structure. Larger Smaller

Questions??? Q. What are some parts of the organ System? A. Heart, Lungs, Stomach… Q. What is the smallest part of a organisms multicellular hierarchy? A. Cells! Q. What is the largest part? A. Organ System
7
There are six kingdoms plants, animals, archaebacteria, eubacteria, fungi, protists
8
Organisms are placed into kingdoms, there are four organisms. Organisms are living things. The four organisms are animalia, plantae, fungi, and protista.
9
What is an organism? A living thing. What are some examples of fungi? Mushrooms, mold, mildew.
10
Digestion The process happens again once you eat Waste is eliminated Molecules are absorbed into blood system Breaks down food into molecules the body can use. The major function of digestion process is to prepare the substances for the process of excretion. Digestion is the process in which food molecules are broken down by gasses and stomach acid.
11
Respiration In your mouth or nose Through your voice box Down your windpipe Through your bronchiole tubes Into your lungs The function of the Respiratory System is to supply blood throughout your body using airways, lungs, blood vessels, muscles, and you heart to work together and move oxygen throughout your body.
12
Reproduction Reproduction is the process by which living things produce new individuals of the same type. Example: Mommy + Daddy= Baby
13
Circulation The Circulatory system is what sends blood from your heart all the way to every part of your body! The blood contains oxygen which provides your body with energy. The circulatory and respiration systems work together to move the blood all around your body! Similar to this fan, it moves the air to all places to cool off the room.
14
Protection of disease Barriers such as the skin, breathing passages, mouth, and stomach trap and kill most pathogens (organisms that cause disease) with which you come into contact. Example: When you breath in through your nose, pharynx, trachea, and bronchi, they contain a lot of mucus and cilia which stop the germs in their tracks!
15
Movement, Control, and Coordination of the Body Movement, control, and coordination all work together as one big process. For example, your brain controls the movement of your feet as you walk, but without good coordination you would probably fall to the ground.
16
Excretion The excretory system is the system in the body that collects wastes produced by cells and removes the wastes from the body. If waste was not taken away it would pile up and make you very sick. For humans, the waste is deposited in a toilet.
