Knowledge begins with a question… Questions that have one correct answer. Example: How many chairs are there in this room? Questions that have many possible answers but which require justification and reasoned judgements. Example: What is the best way to deal with 3 rd World poverty? Questions that have no correct answer but depend totally on the person answering the question. Example: Which type of chocolate tastes best? TaK – Knowledge, Belief & Opinion

How many planets are there in the solar system? Who is the Norwegian Minister for Education? When did China invade Tibet? Is it wrong to kill? What is the color of the door? Does God exist? Are you happy? Is your teacher happy? Is one plus one always two? Do violent video games contribute to violence in society? Was Hitler a good leader? Some definitions … Opinion: personal belief or conclusion held with confidence but not completely supported by positive knowledge or proof Belief: personal confidence of the existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof Knowledge: the body of truths or facts accumulated in the course of time Facts: something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed Evidence: that which tends to prove or disprove something Truth: a communally verified or indisputable fact, proposition or principle TaK – Concept Mapping

Some more definitions … Bias: preference or an inclination that inhibits impartial judgment Assumption: something taken for granted Common Sense: sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like Common Knowledge: something that is generally known Wisdom: knowledge of what is true or right coupled with good judgment as to action Information: knowledge communicated or received Prejudice: an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason TaK – Concept Mapping
