3
Develop a Safe Attitude
Read & follow all posted safety rules. Consider each person’s safety to be your responsibility. Do not engage in horseplay.
4
Develop a Safe Attitude
Stay out of danger zones marked with black and yellow striped tape. Put up warning signs on things that may be hot and could cause burn.
5
Develop a Safe Attitude
Lift with your legs, not your back. To keep better control, get help from someone. Handle materials with sharp edges and pointed objects carefully.
6
Develop a Safe Attitude
Report accidents to your teacher at once.
7
Have Respect for Tools & Equipment
Never use a tool or machine until the teacher has shown you how to use it. Before you use any tool or machine, know the safety rules for that machine.
8
Have Respect for Tools & Equipment
Use equipment only when the teacher is in the lab. Do not let others distract you while you use a machine.
9
Have Respect for Tools & Equipment
Always use the right tool for the job. The wrong tool could injure you or damage your work. Do not use electrical tools or equipment if the cord or plug is damaged.
10
Have Respect for Tools & Equipment
To avoid injury, use a machine guard if available. A guard will prevent injury. Keep hands and fingers away from all moving parts.
11
Have Respect for Tools & Equipment
Before leaving the machine, turn it “OFF” and wait till it stops. Clean the machine and the area around it. Return all tools and unused supplies to their proper places.
12
Prevent & Control Fires
Store oily rags in a closed metal container to prevent fire. Know where the nearest fire extinguisher is and how to use it.
13
Prevent & Control Fires
Have an emergency and evacuation plan in place. Turn machines off Calmly exit the main computer lab into the corridor. Exit the building and proceed, with your class, across the street to the parking lot. Stay with class and wait until all is clear to return to the building.
14
Wear Appropriate Clothing and Protective Equipment
ALWAYS wear eye protection. Wear close-toed shoes. No flip-flops allowed. Use ear protection near loud equipment.
15
Wear Appropriate Clothing and Protective Equipment
Do NOT wear loose clothing, jewelry, or other items that could get caught in machinery. Do NOT wear gloves while operating power tools.
16
Have Respect for Hazardous Materials & Waste
Products with health risks should have a material safety data sheet (MSDS) available. This is a document with safety information about a substance or product.
17
Have Respect for Hazardous Materials & Waste
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with hazmats. Work in a well-ventilated area
18
Maintain the Lab Keep the work area clean. Keep the floor and aisles clean at all times. If a liquid spills, clean it up immediately as instructed by the teacher.
19
Store all materials, tools, and projects properly.
Maintain the Lab Use a brush, not your hands, to clean dry materials from a table or piece of equipment. Store all materials, tools, and projects properly.
20
