4  Depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together,  Symbolizes the big family of mankind.  Inspired by the shape of the Chinese character" 世 "(the world), conveys the organizers' wish to host an Expo of global scale and showcase the diversified urban cultures of the world.

5  Theme  “Better City, Better Life”, representing the common wish of the whole humankind for a better living in future urban environments & a central concern of the international community for future policy making, urban strategies and sustainable development.

9  Designing concept of the mascot  Like the mascots for huge worldwide events such as Olympics and World Cup, the mascot of World Expo, important for interpreting the theme and expressing the culture.  The emblems and images of past World Expos, turned into the unique intangible legacy. The World Expo mascots have not only become the representatives of Expo images, but also embody the culture and spirit of hosting countries and cities.

10  The Main Character of the Mascot  Created from the Chinese character “ 人 ” : people, embodies the character of Chinese culture and echoes with the designing concept of the emblem of World Expo Shanghai. Using the Chinese character as the mascot of an international event is an innovation.

11 Shanghai Expo 2010  Hair: the hair of the mascot is like the wave of the sea, which represents its open character and stated the character of its birth place Shanghai.  Face: its cartoon expression shows its confidence and friendly character.  Eye: big, round eyes show his anticipation of the city.

12 Shanghai Expo 2010  Blue: the color shows its latitude and imagination, which represents the rising and potential China.  Body: its round body represents a well-off life, which is also lovely and cute.  Fist: he thumbs up to show the appreciation and warm welcome to the friends from all over the world.

13  Big feet: he stands steadily on the big feet and embraces the world with big arms, which shows China have the ability and faith to host a successful Expo.  The Name -- Hai Bao The name of the mascot of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China is Hai Bao.

14 The Meaning of Haibao  the treasure of the sea, easy to remember, echoes with the color of its body and is a typical lucky name in Chinese tradition.  the good well ambassador of Shanghai Expo, embracing friends from all over the world with his arms and confident smile.

15 The Expo, which will cover over 5 square kilometers hopes to attract 70 million people to see the displays of exhibitors from over 200 countries from the public and private sectors, civil society, international organizations.

21  The main structure, “The Crown of the East” has a distinctive roof, made of traditional dougong or brackets, which date back more than 2,000 years. The dougong style features wooden brackets fixed layer upon layer between the top of a column and a crossbeam.  This unique structural component of interlocking wooden brackets is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture. Dougong was widely used in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-467 BC).

23 Australian Pavilion  Theme: ImagiNation  Highlights: Sculptured Curving Walls and a Red Ochre Exterior  Pavilion Area: Around 4,800 Square Meters  Location: Within Zone B of the Expo Site

25  Featuring sculptured curving walls and a red ochre exterior, the Australia Pavilion’s appearance is inspired by the world-famous Ayer’s Rock. The color of the pavilion’s red facade is made from the use of a special kind of steel, which is commonly used in Australia cities. It will change colors responding to the temperature and humidity of Shanghai. Pavilion Features
