Balanced Literacy The components of balanced literacy are vocabulary reading skills guided reading independent reading word work writing

Math Our math series is called enVision. It is a conceptual program – it teaches the WHY as well as the HOW of mathematics. Work mats are for guided/independent practice. They are graded sometimes but gone over in class all the time.

STAR Folders Children will bring STAR folders home Monday – Friday. These folders contain completed work and parent information. Please check these folders daily.

Parent Teacher Conferences We will have one set of formal conferences in the fall. Field Trips October 25– Mapleview Farms: pumpkins, petting zoo, hayrides and ice cream made right on the farm. Other field trips maybe: Play at Carolina Theater, and planetarium.

Transportation Changes If your child’s transportation changes, we must have a written note or phone call with specific instructions before 3:15pm. If I am not notified of changes, your child will be placed on his/her normal mode of transportation. I CANNOT take your childs word for it. Please understand this is for your child’s safety!

Low or no cost ways to help Box Tops, Soup Labels, Printer cartridges Donate items needed Volunteer time in/out of the classroom Must be cleared to be in the classroom or on field trips. No siblings are to be in the classroom/field trip while volunteering

Few Reminders Parent Conferences in October/November Volunteers must have a background check before volunteering. Birthdays – classmates will wear Birthday child’s favorite color and bring home Birthday tote Student’s responsibility to take/bring STAR folders every day. Homework due each week but given out monthly to save paper and help time management. Book orders due every 5 th of the month.
