2010-2011 Goals Continue to weed and develop target areas in print collection 300s (Social Sciences) + 96 items - 161 items = 1,913 total items Average © from 1978 to 1981 600s (Technology & Applied Sciences) + 79 items - 87 items = 761 total items Average © from 1984 to 1988 Total # items includes REF and CAREER sections

Last year, we received $4,707.15 from HCBOE and Added 510 books and 80 AV materials = $11,886.70 value. This year, we received $4,500 from HCBOE and Added 582 books and 20 AV materials = $11,451.63 value. 2010-2011 Funding

Collaborate with teachers to increase focus on reading & research across the curriculum 2010-2011 Goals Ihle - U.S. History research projects Jefferson – Researching France Harville – Scientific Biography T. Utt – Researching Medical Topics Huckaby – Know Thyself program & Researching World Religions A few projects outside of the “English Research Paper” Still need improvement in this area - Management obligations at times interfered with our ability to effectively collaborate rather than simply facilitate – need to delegate more to library secretary & student assistants

Dollar General Back to School Grant $2,000 – Know Thyself Collection Collaboration with Huckaby’s Fall 2010 Psychology classes 2 Flip Video Cameras & 2 mini tripods 117 books – focus on Psych, Social Sciences, coming-of-age Fiction 5 DVDs View “Know Thyself” under Resource Lists tab in Destiny or visit display in library to view books in this collection Students created “Who am I?” videos with Flip Cameras and were encouraged to read books from this special collection and write short reflections. 299 circulations from this collection

Encourage critical thinking and analysis of information as essential to the research process Included steps of research process during several individualized class research orientations 2010-2011 Goals Still feel we could improve in this area – Again, primarily due to time spent on management tasks – Need to get out from behind the desk!

2010-2011 Donations $2,740.89 worth of materials donated by students, teachers, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and DUC Library Program Student cash donations = $12.50 THANK YOU!

Independent Use 12,874 Students signed in this year! 3,981 more than last year! 8,121 more than the 2008-2009 school year!

Student Checkouts Students checked out 4,019 books this year! 145 less than last year¡ No checkouts 1 week in October due to circ system switch, only open 14 days in November, 7 days in December, & 12 days in January

Effect of Organization by Genre on Circulation of Fiction 2009-2010 - 2,327 items circulated 2010-2011 – 2,623 circulations Increase of 296 circulations

2011-2012 Goals Increase circulation of books to students at least 100% Goal of at least 7,916 student checkouts Every student checks out at least 1 book. Double # of students with 5 + checkouts 2010-2011 = 156 students 2011-2012 Goal = 312 students

2011-2012 Goals 500s – Science & Math (avg. © 1970) – need 964 books = $24,081.07 300s – Social Sciences (avg. © 1981) – still need 1,183 books = $29,544.50 Continue to weed and develop target sections.

2011-2012 Grant Proposals Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant – max $3,000 – students self-select materials & record reviews using iPod Touch – mini collections based on 5 main conceptual strands of Biology I standards Collaboration with Watkins – Science Literacy It’s a Scientific Fact – Reading Makes You Smarter

3 – visit all 1 st period classes in August to request student input on titles purchased with grant funds 2011-2012 Grant Proposals Dollar General Back to School Grant max $5,000 and/or Margaret A. Edwards Trust Grant - max $5,000 East Reads! – promotion of pleasure reading 1 – EAST READS posters featuring admins, teachers, alumni, students from various social groups 2 – 2 iPods for video reviews to be posted on school website & available in catalog records for books

Class Visits 425 Total Class Visits this year, only 3 less than last year. Consider also that we were open 14 days in Nov., 7 days in Dec., & 12 days in Jan.
