2 Did You Know? 25% of the population in North America live alone - Estimated 2010 In North America, this is one of the major signals of a successful transition into adulthood

3 Did You Know Part 2 In North America and Western Europe, there is a general agreement that the period between the ages of 18 and 25 is period of completing school, establishing occupations, and creating new households. It is during this transition stage that the young person becomes less dependent on their parents and their well being becomes as a result of their own actions

4 Thesis When individuals choose to separate from their nuclear family at a young age, it can be very beneficial because it prepares an individual for the future as they learn to be responsible, independent, and they build character

5 Responsibility Firstly, living independently requires individuals to accept responsibility for meeting their own needs for food, clothing, and water Individuals now have to take of their own meals, perhaps by learning how to cook They are solely responsible for making sure deadlines for bills, and utilities are met. They will no longer me reminded for their duties and deadlines, they have to take care of their expenses by themselves As a result, they will learn how to manage their money wisely. In addition, because they live alone, they have to do the household work by themselves, chores around the house, cleaning among others

6 Building Character Finally, living on your own can lead to feelings of self importance and self respect. It builds character, importance, and it also helps individuals understand who they are An individual will feel strong about themselves through their experience of living alone. This is because living on your own causes people to be become self- sufficient, they will feel grown up and mature due to their ability to handle themselves, this leads to feelings of self respect This felling of confidence is of great importance in today’s society. During this period, individuals are completing their education and thus will be looking for work in the near future

7 Arguments Many people point out that living on your own cause’s people to lose their social life Today’s generation has access to a vast of amount of technology, for example, as a result of these advancements people are more connected than ever before FaceBook has over 500 million users Yahoo, Skype, and twitter are some of the many methods of communication, today everyone is using these in order to stay in touch with friends and family.
