5 SSL Reminders 145 seniors still need SSL hours  Spring Break is a great time to get hours…Please encourage your students to complete their hours!  Mulch Sale is April 14th

6 Attendance Reminders  61 Seniors have 5 or more absences in one or more classes and may lose credit  Seniors with more than 5 absences need to see Mr. Niper to discuss an intervention plan  STUDENTS NEED TO ATTEND CLASS EVERYDAY!

9 Senior Banquet Thursday, April 26  6:00 pm to 9:00 pm  Northwest Cafeteria  Catering by Mamma Lucias Italian Restaurant  Tickets are $25 per person and will go on sale on Monday, April 23 during lunch

10 AP Exams May 7-17  Students need to arrive by 7:15 am for morning exams  Students need to arrive by 11:15 am for afternoon exams  Students are excused from all classes on the days of their AP exams

11 High School Assessments May 21-23  Delayed opening for all seniors  Monday and Tuesday; school starts at 10:30 for lunch; classes begin at 11:05  Wednesday; school starts at 10:45 for lunch; classes begin at 11:20

12 Senior Awards Ceremony Wednesday, May 2  6:30 pm to 9:00 pm  Northwest Auditorium  All seniors and their parents are invited!

13 Prom Friday, May 18  8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight  Gaithersburg Hilton  Theme: Old Hollywood  Tickets are $60 per person and will go on sale on Monday, May 7, during lunch  Students must have no obligations (including cap and gown fee) in order to purchase tickets  When students purchase prom tickets, they will receive a parent permission form to be dismissed at 11:00 am on Friday, May 18

14 After Prom Saturday, May 19  12:00 midnight to 5:00 am  Northwest Cafeteria & Gym  FREE if purchasing a prom ticket  If not attending prom, tickets are $10 in advance and $20 at the door  Open to everyone who attends prom as well as juniors and seniors who do not attend prom

15 Senior Exams May 18-25 REVIEW  Friday, May 18 – Review Day (Periods 1-4)  Monday, May 21 – Review Day (Periods 5-7) EXAMS  Tuesday, May 22 – Period 7  Wednesday, May 23 – Periods 5 and 6  Thursday, May 24 – Periods 3 and 4  Friday, May 25 – Periods 1 and 2 All exams for 2 nd semester seniors are 45 minutes long and will be given during regularly-scheduled class periods.

18 Graduation Tuesday, June 5  2:30 pm  DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC  Graduates MUST arrive no later than 1:30 pm, wearing their caps and gowns

19 Caps & Gowns  $50 cap & gown fee is PAST DUE  Currently 82 Seniors still owe fee  If your student has not paid for the cap & gown, please send a check by Thursday.  Students will receive notification in the senior parent mailing being sent in early April if they have not paid.

20 Graduation Tickets  Each graduate will receive 5 tickets if he/she needs them; they will be distributed during the week of May 21-25.  Additional tickets beyond 5 will be distributed after we know exactly how many students are graduating, during the last week of May at the latest.  Every guest over 1 year old must have a ticket. Children under 1 year old must sit in an adult’s lap for the entire ceremony.  Doors open for guests at 1:30 pm.  Doors will close at 2:25 pm for the processional.  Graduates do not need tickets.

21 Graduation Ticket Request Forms  Graduation Ticket Request Forms were distributed to all students in January and were due by March 23rd  If your student has not submitted a Graduation Ticket Request Form, you will receive notification in the senior parent mailing being sent in early April.

22 Getting to and from Graduation If You Drive:  Parking near DAR Constitution Hall is EXTREMELY limited, and there is a strict 2-hour limit for the meters. Metro:  From the Orange and Blue lines (A 10-15 minute walk)  From the Red Line (A 10-15 minute walk) Take the Farragut North metro stop. Exit the station on 17th Street, and walk south on 17th Street towards Constitution. Turn right on D Street.

23 Getting to and from Graduation If you ride the bus:  The school will provide buses to and from the graduation ceremony at a cost of $20 per person.  Individuals riding the buses must arrive at Northwest by 12:00 noon.  Tickets for the buses will be on sale May 7 – June 1. To purchase them, bring cash or money order to the business office between the hours of 7:00am – 3:30pm. You will be given a form to complete and your tickets.

24 Graduation Rehearsal Monday, June 4  7:30 am in the cafeteria  MANDATORY for all graduates – Students who do not participate in the rehearsal will not participate in the graduation ceremony!  Will conclude no later than 12:00 noon – Students may NOT leave early.  Caps & gowns will be distributed at the end of rehearsal.

25 Attire for Graduates  Graduates must wear dress clothes and dress shoes underneath their caps & gowns.  Absolutely no jeans, shorts, or flip flops!  Students dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to participate.

27 Other Graduation Information  If you would like to order a DVD of the graduation ceremony, order forms will be enclosed in the senior parent mailing in early April.  Please e-mail Matthew Niper at matthew_t_niper@mcpsmd.org by April 16 th if you or guests : ○ Will be in wheelchairs or will require special seating

28 Obligations  You will receive notification if your student has obligations in the senior parent mailing being sent in April.  Students with obligations cannot purchase prom tickets, cannot pick up graduation tickets and cannot pick up their caps & gowns.  After May 1, any expenses paid to the school must be via cash or money order.

29 Closing  Remember that all school rules apply during all school- sponsored events, including Senior Banquet, Prom, After Prom, and graduation –Please review these with your students!  Northwest is known for having the BEST graduation ceremony in the county, and we want to continue that tradition.  Blanton will continue to take pictures of each graduate shaking hands with Mrs. Dempsey.  On the day of graduation, the school will hold diplomas for any students that do not act appropriately during the ceremony. Let’s have a GREAT end of the year!
