5 Introduction  You will obviously learn about journalistic writing.  You will also learn, step by step, what it takes to write good breaking news and features.  Actually what I’ve included in this academic year course will teach you what you need to know in order to be a good journalist.  The Public Relations Dept. of big enterprises is also a good choice for you. However they only hire people who know what news media want and have good writing skills.

6 The benefit you will get The benefits you will get to take this course  Understand the newspaper you’re reading daily.  Be sensible to the news you’re explored.  Increase your writing ability.  Be able to think independently.  Helpful to your professional career. *  Build yourself a potential career as a reporter.

7 The benefit you will get The benefits you will get to take this course  To become a specialist in the fields you’re reporting and maybe a potential career you’ll switch to.  The terminologies you will learn to write different journalistic stories will help you in any English exam (ex. GEPT, TOEIC)

8 The benefit you will get  Helpful to your professional career - I would encourage people to learn journalistic writing because the writing skills you learn could be used in any fields. - Be brave enough to contact high rank people and arrange interviews. Also learn how to justify yourself if you’re refused.

9 The benefit you will get  Helpful to your professional career - The interviewing experience and class activities we do will help you pick out the key points in a long talk. This ability would certainly help you a lot. - If you do become a junior reporter, you will have a chance to know the top people in the field you are reporting which will explore yourself to a lot of successful experience and possible a different career.

11 The Press  Newspaper – easier to get in  Magazine – easier to get in  Broadcasting – need some experience  News Agency – need very good writing skills

12 The Press  This course is aimed primarily at writing for print media because the skills you learn and use are required in any media-related job.  No matter what kinds of media you are working for, your writing needs to be clear, concise and accurate.

13 The Press  Unless you have a very strong background, most of the journalists start from working for a newspaper, not TV / Broadcaster  Most of the journalists use their first job to gain experience, then can move to a medium-sized newspaper or station and then to a major one. This way your working pressure is much less than working for a TV station.

14 The Press  Strengthen your writing skills – reporting needs to be aggressive and precise, and it must be based on careful research & interviewing. It makes no difference if it is a newspaper or a TV station.

15 The Press  Regardless of the medium for which you work, journalists must be able to - gather information find the most important elements put the story together

16 The Press  There is also a possibility that the writing ability you’re learning and practicing will help you in your future career – Ex. Public relations in an organization Advertising agent

19 Improve Your Journalistic Writing Skills  Read English newspapers daily ( 每天讀一點英文的新聞 – 報紙, 網路, 電視 )  Practice typing skills – set 60WPM as your target speed. ( 請開始練英文打字 – 以一分鐘 60 個字為目標 – 非常重要 )  Read and study news from any news media – newspaper, broadcast news, TV news, news on internet and take good sentences for writing reference. ( 有時間多研讀各類新聞, 擷取好的句子來用 )  Put some “pleasure” into studying Journalistic English: Always reserve some of your “study” time just for fun. ( 最後, 就是所有的老師都會傳授你的一項秘訣 : “ 樂在學習 ” )
